Canon LTM Canon 35/1.5: A Tribute

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Yes that was the same experience I had with the 35mm F2 Canon. It vignettes on film (If you use an M8 the image is probably OK because of the crop factor). That is why I buy the original Canon Slimline filters. They made them for a reason.

I remember something else about this lens:
when a filter is mounted (I had a regular UV Hoya 48mm), the only way to put the hood on is to clamp it on the filter.
But then, IIRC, the hood vignets.
You may want to check this carefully before shooting somthing important.

I would really like to use those STEER rings on both my f1.2 and f1.5 b/c I think they would work a little faster and also save the paint on the lens, but not if I have to take peices off the lens to make them work :/ Tom

As you can see in the attached photo, the STEER does not interfere with the infinity latch, on the 50mm F1.2 Canon. Notice how it just clears the latch. I put mine one in about five minutes, I was being really careful to get it on completely straight. You can attach it over and over, as long as you are careful to keep the adhesive clean and sticky.

Don't know about the 50mm F1.5, don't have that one. The STEER is not expensive.

Yeah, I meant the f1.5/35 I don`t want to have to take the IL off the lens to use that STEER thingy :/

Ohh it has to be stuck with adhesive??? Well the Canon inspection sticker is still on my f1.5/35 so I'm trying to preserve that as best as possible, now I guess it won't hurt the ring on the f1.2/50

The inside of the STEER is lined with adhesive foam tape. Just remove the paper protective covering, and it's ready to stick to the focusing ring. I've done this with three of my Canon lenses, and have not found it to be difficult to do. And it can be cleanly removed I have found.

"Softly As The Morning Sunrise"

New York City based Movie Director/Actress/Model Nyssa Nevers, shot with my Canon f1.5/35 on my M8, shot at full bore f1.5 with little to no post processing :)

Enjoy!

I just finished processing eight rolls of mostly Eastman XX and a bit of Tri-X. Three of the rolls are with the new Canon 35mm F1.5 lens, and overall, I'm quite impressed. The film is drying, so I can't put a loupe to it yet. Even directly into the sun, with the sun in the frame, this new lightsucker lens is doing just fine. I was deliberately trying to get it to flare. So far so good it appears to be a definite keeper. :)

Seems like this lens is getting quite a bit of a following.....another friend of mine just found a "user" example of one, (under $300) and is loving it!

Any new shoots or finds lately???

Any new shoots or finds lately??? Tom

Yesterday I finished a roll of XX/35 F1.5 on M2. Late evening shots of an outdoor rock concert, some shot wide-open, with bright spotlit outdoor stage. Also did evening carnival shots earlier in the roll, some done wide-open, and more daytime stopped-down stuff. I already enjoying this lens alot, it's certainly not too big, and I really like the way it handles, especially with the STEER. Not regretting selling my 35mm F2 Canon at all. Many times I have needed the extra stop in speed. No flaring at all yet, either. Mine is definately a keeper. In the afternoon stormy monsoon rain I was shooting at F1.5 @ 1/250 with XX.

Need to shoot a few more rolls to accumulate enough to make a film processing run. Will scan and put the results up here.

Here's A Couple of New Finds for 35mm F1.5 Canon

Here's A Couple of New Finds for 35mm F1.5 Canon

Needed a tight fitting lenscap for when I use this lens on M5, that camera body needs a lenscap on when not being used for any longer period of time.

Below is M2 with the Schneider large format Lenscap SN223/28. It fit a bit too tightly on my Canon Hood, so I trimmed off the inner "ribs" with a razor blade, and now it fits tightly, and completely, but dosen't pull the hood off.

And here's M5 with a generic tabbed 67mm "clip-on" lenscap which works great with the lens and M5. The M5 was made for high-speed lenses, and is my favorite "shooter" hands down. I love how the 35mm F1.5 handles on the M5, like it was made for it. :)

The flare is a characteristic of this lens. It is not there with "average" daylight images.

I'm having a really BAD day....Really Bad!

I'm having a really BAD day....Really Bad!

I just went to use my f1.5/35 and something's wrong with the aperture ring, it doesn't open up to f1.5 anymore, it stops at around f2.8 and stops down to f11 etc. but it doesn't open up to f2 or f1.5 anymore......it's a N.O.S. lens like new and this happens, I don't understand, it's never been dropped or shook etc. I just woke up and tried the lens and here it is all messed up, the blades all line up and there's no excess oil etc.........this really really sucks, I'm having a horrible day! :bang: :(

I'm really SCREWED, this is my favorite work lens now and it doesn't work properly anymore.......What can I do about this, who's the BEST Canon lens repairman in the USA?

Tom

PS: I hope this isn't going to cost alot to fix, the lens was crazy expensive already bc it was MINT/N.O.S. :(

It's probably sticky oil on blades. Don't play with the aperture ring and send the lens for a CLA. Sorry to hear that.
