Great shots Raid!

Seems that the 35 also has that "3D" sort of pop that the f1.5/50 has, Canon really made some "magic" when they released the f1.5 apertures 🙂

I just bought a w-50 hood for it (overkill) so that I can push it a little with my studio flood lamps.

Can anyone put me in the right direction for a passable 48mm IR/Cut filter for this lens? , while it will be on the M8 most of the time......

PS: I still need a 55mm IR/Cut filter for my Canon f1.2/50 ~ who makes one that does'nt damage on hit the bowed out front element?

Very Nice. Might need an internal cleaning, if it's been sitting on a shelf for near fifty years. Mind if I ask what you paid? 🙂

I'll write you about it off the board, I did'nt want to discuss prices online 🙂 ~

Conditionwise I hope it's just like my Canon f1.2/50 was when I traded for it, that lens had been sitting around since 1967 clean as a whistle inside and part of a Canon collection out of Sarasota, all I did with that was buy some UV "Flat Top" filters for it and a Yashica 35 hood (the best hood for the f1.2) I don't mess with Mother Nature, it stayed good since new, I've been lucky to have found almost all my lenses I use in work everyday to be 100% usable, only the "wartime" Sonnar had Mr Sweeney's magic done to it and my 57' Nikkor HC f2/50 needs some adjustment b/c it's off at infinity now.......everything else seems to work aok!

I think that I will be using my Canon's almost all the time now on the M8, I just need to get the filters figured out for the two lenses and also get a 40mm to 43mm step up ring, so I can use my other Canon's too! (the f1.5/50 and a chrome f1.8/50 two amazing lenses for the M8 as well) 🙂

Very nice price, Tom. Post some Kool pix taken with it soon. I also have the 50mm F1.2, the 35mm F2, the 85mm F1.5 and the 19mm F3.5, all of which I use constantly. Best Of Luck with the new lens!

This particular 35mm lens was not mine but was sent to me like most 35mm-40mm that I used side by side. The results surprised many, and I then got such a lens a few years later.

Well, I just received the lens in the mail today, it is truly N.O.S. like new and luckly it's not stiff or dirty, it's ready to go!

I think this lens was a wise decision........I'm really surprised at it's size and weight, compact and very very light, I have the W-50 hood coming next week, and it still will be compact even with that on the front of the lens 🙂

PS: The foam padding in the case is dry rotted, does anyone have a cure for that, well how to restore it, while the case is almost like new, just the foam is brittle and dried out 🙁

Just got the W-50 hood in the mail yesterday, and now I'm working on finding a late 1960's Chrome Canon UV or Skylight filter for protection.

Also need a IR/Cut filter, been having a hard time finding a 48mm one for a reasonable price anywhere, evilbay seems to be dry right now 🙁

I found a WALZ daylight color conversion A filter, I screwed that on there for the time being..........it's rendering a sort of mild orange/sepia tones, right up my alley for the Retro stuff, but I really need a IR/cut filter soon 🙂

Yeah, thanks for driving the price up. Seems you´re not interested in the lens anymore?

That said, from the samples in this thread, I dont see why one should buy a 50 year old Canon lens with potential issues (fungus, fogging, haze, mechanical problems) when one could go for a new CV 35/1.4 instead.

I love this lens!!!!! I posted that as a favor to anyone here looking for one maybe and just because the Canon boxes are really kool looking 🙂

ohh and BTW the prices on this particular lens have always been higher than "normal" production numbered 35mm lenses (with less than 6,000 lenses made) that does'nt leave much left out there, if alot of people are interested in buying one. ~ it's all supply and demand and this lens has a "cult" following just like the Canon f1.5/50, the Nikkor f1.8/35 and the Summicron f2/35 ver 4.

There's quite a few of us here at RFF who buy 50 year old Canon LTM lenses ~ we like the signature and bokeh they give our work 😀
(I personally only like the signature of the Nokton f1.2/35 and f1.5/50, so I myself would never buy a VC f1.4/35, the signature is too modern looking)
and all and all the Canon lenses I've invested in so far have been mint/near mint and they don't have any problems, I have never had to CLA anything mint I've bought that's Canon.....I personally believe in paying an extra $50 or $100 over the normal price for truly "mint" condition equipment, just saves the money you invest in a repairman for the CLA, which will more than likely cost even more then that in the long haul.

PS: Sorry folks....still no photoshoot samples to post yet from the f1.5/35, but next weekend is the Fetishcon here in Florida and I'll have some new work to post by then. 🙂 (I think I might make a whole new thread from that show, if it doesn't get deleted b/c it's too risque?)

Tom, congrats on your find, it looks great!
Don't want to rain on anybody's party, but I would like to share my quite mixed experience with the lens.

It's very sharp. from the sample I had, it was clearly sharper than a canon 1.8 I could compare it to, and just a bit softer than a cron asph.
Apparently, sharpness comes to a price, and the bokeh quality can be a bit funky.
It's not small, but quite flat, which is very important in my book.
After a CLA it was really smooth and nice to use.

Now for the bads, and the reasons I sold it:
It's a "character lens" and I decided to prefer a more neutral rendering.
It flares like mad. That's a real problem. The hood is not always effective, and furthermore, it blocks the RF window on barnacks, so if you want the hood, it's an M lens.
it has a looooong throw. some like it, I don't.
Last but not least, its minimum focus distance is 1m. I find it manageable for a 50 or a longer lens, but with wides, I like to get close!

My sample was clean, and when I had the opportunity to do it, I sold it as well as my CS 35mm and got a beautiful M-hexanon (thanks Mike!) which I still didn't fully use but which suits a bit more my uses of this FL.

Now folks, wasn't that a good attempt at keeping prices under control? 😀:angel:

Well, today I found a vintage Kenko 48mm UV filter NIB for $10, now the lens is covered, still looking for a IR/cut filter then lateron to replace this one 🙂

Hopefully shooting my assistant Emily tomorrow afternoon/evening with the f1.5 so stay tuned!

Seems prices have COME DOWN for this lens, so their shouldn't be any complaining 😉 ~ I paid a premium price for my lens, but it is truly like new/mint in the case (but not for long!) ~ seems that black lens rim paint on the focus ring, doesn/'t hold up well with usage, my Canon f1.2/50 is mint, like new glass, but the focus ring has little tick marks from handling now...

I have a photography convention this coming weekend and hopefully/finally the f1.5/35 will be getting put through it's paces 🙂

Here's a quick sample of a shot from my f1.5/35, a "behind the scenes" of my photo assistant Emily using my Wetzlar M6 with the Canon f1.2/50 on it.......

It's not broken in yet, after this weekend, I should have much much more various studies and styles of work that it's been shot with 🙂

Here are my other two Canon "Light Suckers", the 50mm F1.2 and the 85mm F1.5. I have been looking for the 35mm F1.5 (to complete my set) for several years now. Now I have won a nice one, and I can't wait.

I have ordered another Leicagoodies "STEER" to fit the focusing ring on my new 35mm F1.5. Notice that I have them on the 50mm and 85mm, and they help quite a bit in terms of handling the focus ring on these big lenses.

I'll need a Canon Slimline original filter, to finish it off. It might vignette without the thin filter (on film) I don't have an M8. 🙂
