Canon 50/1.4

Hi,
I bought a Canon 50/1.4 for my Bessa-R few weeks ago and I'm little bit puzzled of the filter size.
I don't have a own lens cap to the objective yet, but have tested that it will take 48mm lens cap. Then I tried to screw the 48mm filter to it very carefully so I wouldn't mess up the thread, but it doesn't fit.
The widht seems to be okay(?), but could it be something like 47.5 or 47mm?
Also the thread seems to be different. Is it so? I was trying to fit it with standard modern UV-filter, what is in front of my QL17 GIII objective.

It seems to be almost impossible to find information on RF-lenses through google as all the links are pointing to SLR-lenses.

Hmmm, yes it seems to take 48mm filters.
Feel again totally stupid, as I only tryed it with my QL17 filter which seems to have taken some damage to its thread. :bang:

Did manage to find a step-up ring with 48mm at the lower end it seems to go in nicely.

Still thanks for pushing me to get my ass up from the chair and try another one to it. 🙂

You might look into a 48mm to 49mm step up ring. 49mm filters are easy to find. 48mm filters aren't. Then you can get a 49mm hood. I would investigate Pentax 50mm SLR lens hoods.

Ditto what Wayne (vencha) said--works fine for me too w/ a Heliopan step-up ring only. I refuse to use cheap Chinese aluminum rings. The ring will also allow you to use the many 49mm filters out there.

B+W 48mm filter can be found but are not cheap (much easier than 40mm
filters, for instance). They were also used by
the older 90/2 Summicron. Search for "48mm uv filter" on bhphoto.com,
a new B+W MRC filter will run you around US 40. But it's a great filter.

There is also a seller in Taiwan that sells well priced Hoyo HMC 48mm UV
filter, occasionally, for instance 270110368917.

Another option is to get the S-50 hood, that you can put series filters
or 49mm filters into. Or a step-up adapter like Wayne said.

I have to check that Canon Camera museum.

And I have found a source for 48mm filters, I think it was named as Regent and costed 5 euros which is pretty cheap I think. Don't know quality though.
I have already destroyed one filters trhread as it got stuck to my step up ring. Which was by the way Heliopan 48->52. I'll probably use that as I have several 52mm filters for my SLR. It doesn't block too much the aiming view.
