Canon LTM Canon 50/1.5

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Seller is from the great state of Texas, and like many sellers from that wonderful state, only sells in the U.S. A.

gee, i hope not all texans post such tiny photos.

wonder if it's connected to the size of his...;)

well, we all know how i feel about those who do not sell outside of their own borders...his loss!

joe who lives and breathes in canada, the u.s.a.'s friendly northern neighbor

Joe, if you want the lens, have him ship it to me, and I would be happy to send it to you.

After a few months ;)

thanks ray, very generous of you (no pun intended;))

but i don't do business with people who don't want my business.

joe

The last two 50/1.5 Canons that I have watched have sold for under $300, the market seems to be down.

Isn't the 50/1.4 the better lens? And yet can be found cheaper (?). Is it the rarity of the 1.5 that has the price higher?

:)

The first picture in the current auction is not present in the original auction. A little fuzzy, but the Serial Number of the lens looks the same. From the closed auction: 12608. From the current auction, with the first picture that is different from the closed auction, looks the same.

I asked the seller for the Serial Number.

The 50/1.4 is considered to be a sharper more modern lens. It is a Double Gauss design and shares the those qualities of a number of modern lenses. It has more modern coatings, and is much bigger than the 50/1.5.

The 50/1.5 is a true Sonnar copy and has all the qualities of a Sonnar. The images are sharp in the center and very smooth and pleasant out to the edges. It produces a much different classic image. It is TINY. As small as the collapsible Summicron, collapsed. The 50/1.5 has a build quality as high as the best Leica lenses. And I think the chrome barrel is cool. ;)

Is the 50/1.4 better? Maybe. My personal opinion is no, but if I am right that is just saying a whole lot about how much I like the 50/1.5 because the 1.4 is very very good.

> and here I thought I was the only one who harrassed bogus/lazy/less than truthful sellers...

I half suspect that this seller bought the lens on the closed auction and is reselling it.

I have both the Canon 50mm F1.4 and 50mm F1.5. Both are terrific lenses. The F1.5 lens is MUCH smaller and works out great on a Leica CL. It fits in the CL's tiny pouch case and is not much bigger than the 40mm F2 Summicron.

Thanks Rover! Great explanation! Better? Yeah, probably not the best word choice. Preferred? Desired? I'm just getting into Canon lenses, I have a 1.8, and a 1.4, so I'm just learning about their characteristics.

Can someone compare it to a 50 1.5 Nokton? (yes, different size)

I envision that the Nokton is a modern version of the Canon 50/1.4, both sharing the double gauss design (right?). The Nokton benefits from the most recent coatings.

Wide open the 1.4 is sharper than the Canon 1.5, stopped down, well every 50mm lens stopped down is mighty nice.

I would guess this comparison is true too about the Nokton. Like comparing a CRF Sonnar from the 1950s to a current Summilux.

I use the 1.5 as a general purpose lens, not necessarily a low light lens.

This seller is fine. The SN is the same as the lens in the closed auction: He bought it. I think lifting the images from an item that you bought is legit: it is not a misrepresentation of the product currently being sold.

I agree with Brian. There's nothing wrong with lifting images somebody else made it the images correctly or accurately describe the thing you're selling...especially true if the images depict the actual item you're re-selling. Seems an intelligent way to do auction site biz. :D

I wish I could sell my Canon 50/1.2 and replace it with a Canon 50/1.4 or 50/1.5 one day.

The auction was cancelled by Ebay. I'll bet someone complained to them that the pictures were lifted. I still think the seller is legit, and I inquired as to what happened.

Why not post a Want To trade for the 50mm F1.2. Is anything wrong with it, or just do not like it?

I did own a 50/1.5 (didn't like it so I sold it a few months back to another RFF member), and currently own a 50/1.2 and 50/1.4. Hands down my most used 50mm lens the past several months has been the 50/1.2. Much better wide-open than given credit for, this lens really shines when stopped down as little as a 1/2 stop. Take a look at my gallery images when you get there chance (and when Jorge gets it back in operatiion) to see what I'm talking about. I still have the 50/1.4 but haven't pulled it out of my gadget bag since April. I do like the small size and weight of the 50/1.4 and imagine I'll use it more once my current infatuation with the 50/1.2 wanes.
