Canon LTM Canon 50mm f/0.95 lens shade?

My personal opinion is it is too much but a collector will pay almost anything for items like this..
 
In recent memory, for me that means not very long at all, I saw the lens sell for less than that from Brooklyn Camera.

Does anybody happen to know if this is a reasonable price? I mean, obviously it's more for collectors sake, but I'm just wondering what the value of this thing really is since I do have it. I don't mean to use the forum as an appraisal resource, but I figure someone here might know.

as fast 50 RF lens shades go
the Canon 50/.95's shade is extremely simple and basic
it does not begin to compare to the wonderful Nikkor 50/1.1's lens shade

but the Canon .95 shades are VERY hard to find,
so a collector who has been searching for a long time might pay $450

but it's not worth nearly that to a shooter
make your own .95 lens shade out of tupperware or whatever
and save the bucks for film !

I've got a 72mm screw-in metal shade, very short, similar to the Canon shade, for mine, from an ebay shop, about 20 USD. Remember the 50/0.95 is prone to ghosting thanks to big, protruding glass and benefits a lot from a hood.
The genuine shades are quite rare; I wonder why. The last I saw on ebay went for 230 USD two years ago.

I have recorded these as selling between $230-$385 US$.

I have been recording high and low $ value of most Canon Accessory sales since 2005 as I am more interested in the serial numbers of items which did have a # as it gives me some idea of the production run.

There is some Canon RF gear that is even rarer and more usefull than the small metal band for the 50/0.95 that goes for pretty cheap money...

Re the hood for the 50/0.95 it, of course, in the opinion of Cameraquest SUCKS just like the lens itself. Big surprise, eh?

This is clearly a collector's item , and will no doubt will sell for collector prices. Although I am sure that it will sell for a lower price than equivalent hood for the 50/1.1 Nikkor.

No arguments that other hoods from eBay sellers such as heavystar or american eagle would work, although tupperware is doubtful.

I guess that one could fabricate a hood for the Nikkor 50/1.1 from tupperware, too. Of course, it would probably suck, and the pictures obtained using the tupperware hood would probaly suck too, because they were not taken using the high-priced Nikkor original.

Like you said - can't go too wrong for $8 (though we pay $10 in the US!)
 
Sometimes, (and I don't really know if its the case for this lens) if one uses Canon's original UV filter for these superspeed lenses, these screw in hoods will not work as Canon original filters do not have outside thread. So hood has to be fitted on the outside of the barrel. I have this situation with the Canon 50/1.2. I suppose one could use a regular filter, however there is a chance that filter's glass will rub against/touch front element of the lens as there are very much sticking out. Original Canon one is made to compensate for that. Others may not be. Or you may not use a UV filter at all, of course. All is just matter of personal preference.

Well I sure hope you are wrong about the filter touching the front element for the 0.95, I just bought a pretty pricey Heleopan UV filter for it! Plus I ordered one of the ebay screw on shades, it is good quality, reasonably thick/sturdy.

I use two different kinds of B+W filters on the lens and they do not touch the front element btw.

Thanks Eric - I went ahead and ordered the wide angle version.

The hood does block about a 1/4 of the focusing patch on my Canon 7, but I am a little paranoid going "naked" with that glass. I may try stacking a couple of filter rings or try to modify the new hood if it bugs me enough. I am not sure if a strategically placed vent would resolve the issue, but I have a friend who may be able to give it a try...

You know, they have a Dremel clone for just 129 NOK at Clas Ohlson :)
