Recently purchased a Mamiya 7. Can I use the Canon 580EXII flash on the camera? Will the flash damage the circuitry of the camera?
Thanks,
Jim

No it definitely won't do any harm as it's a new flash. You only have to worry about the circuitry with old(er) flashes.
You can use the flash but it goes without saying that it won't do TTL with the Mamiya. Shouldn't really be a problem, though.

Thank you for the reply. I plan to shoot the flash in manual mode, using light meter to determine power output. I read elsewhere that someone recommended altering the C.Fn from 5 to 3. I don't understand that suggestion. I would be grateful for explanation.
Thanks again,
Jim

I don't understand it either, unless it refers to C Fns on eh Mamiya.
On the 580EX C Fn 03 is flash metering mode (0=ETTL II, 1=TTL) and C Fn 05 is Cancellation of slave unit's auto power off (0=cancellable with master unit within 1hr, 1=Cancellable with master unit within 8hrs).
Did the person mean C Fns on the Mamiya or on the 580EX?
