Hello everyone:

I need a little advice since my technical competence is lacking here... One of my Canon 7 bodies decided to get its shutter stuck halfway through a shoot. Now I think it needs a little CLA job. I tried the bulb setting, but it did not unlock. :bang: Is there any other way to unlock it? Who would be the most recommended (but still slightly economical) technician for a Canon 7?

With most sincere thanks...

At this point, I can only vouch their turn-around time, but Essex Camera in NJ had mine overhauled in a week and two days, maybe less if I'd called sooner. They were also very nice and complemented my Canon 7 as being a very good camera, which made me feel good. That says alot for a world of one month quoted and two two three month actual turn-around times, which is why I have a load of busted Olympus OM bodies, Everything seems to work fine, so far. It wasn't cheap, but I wouldn't call it expensive, either. Try to get anything fixed from a wheelchair to a washing machine, and a full camera overhaul is actually pretty inexpensive if you figure the time involved. They have a list of general costs on their website.

You're sure the ring around the shutter button is set all the way to "A", right? If it's not, the shutter button will be blocked.

Assuming that's okay and the camera is still jammed, try turning the ring all the way in the opposite direction, to the rewind position (not marked.) With it in this position, try stroking the advance lever. If it will move, wind it two or three times, then put the ring back to the A position and see if the shutter will cock.

If neither of these works, don't try anything else -- send it in to Essex or someone else reputable to be fixed.
