Does anyone know the shutter speed of this camera when it is not on auto. I know it is a set speed. I have found 3 diferent versions on web. Help.

Does the Canonet 28 require a battery to function? I just got one off ebay recently but when tested, can hear the shutter release like any other camera but I do not see any light through the curtains. Am hoping that it is battery problem and that a fresh battery would resolve this.

Is it?

Thanks for the suggestions on the blog Remy. I've managed to get fresh alkaline battery for it, but sadly the camera is faulty. I think something is wrong with the shutter mechanism. It fires, but does not expose the film. Anyway, glad that the ebay seller refunded me.

I bought a Canonet 28 a few years ago. It showed very little use, but the battery compartment was fouled with green battery leakage.

After cleaning that stuff out, I found that the acid had eaten through one of the wires (don't recall if it was + or -).

A simple solder job put it right. And I'm awful at soldering. 🙂

You can try a new battery. If it still doesn't work, it will need the battery wire and the auto switch checked out.

I bought one of those a while back for #7. I put a battery in it and it, too, did not function. I researched the camera on the net. It appears that the camera has a weak point in the connection in the top. It is a wire that corrodes or comes loose. A professional CLA that would bring a camera of that quality up to useable condition is not worth the expense. If you can do it yourself that's the way to go.
