I recently got a canon demi that is a family heirloom, and the light meter is dead. I cant exactly sunny 16 it since the shutter speed isnt marked. I dont know the model number but its got the selenium cell light meter (think bike reflector). This camera has a good bit of sentemental value to me, and i was wondering if anyone knew where to get the light meter replaced?

I can't help with the exact question of meter repair. Till that is solved, though, the following might help in using your heirloom. It comes from a review of the Canon Demi (a long time ago) by A.M. Carlsson that was reprinted in THE HALF FRAMER (January, 1999).

(quote begins)

The following table shows the intermediate values set against the respective lens stops:

Aperture Shutter
f/2.8 1/30
f/4 1/45
f/5.6 1/60
f/8 1/90
f/11 1/125
f/16 1/190
f/22 1/250

(quote ends -- I hope the table format survives the posting.)

So when you set the aperture at the arrow you can have a pretty good idea of what shutter speed is being used and avoid the restriction to 1/30 sec at the flash synch setting. I haven't tried this system (the meter in my Demi still works); but, maybe it's worth a try. The Demi is a great camera.

Sorry for the hi-jack, but could you share some details about THE HALF FRAMER? I wasn't aware that there was a publication of any kind specific to half-frames, but i'm definitely curious! Thanks!

The HALF FRAMER was published 3 times a year by the Half Frame Group in the UK. The publication often reprinted useful ariticles from the 60's along with new material. When I belonged to the HF Group the person to get in touch with was:

Fred Adcock
16 Havelock Road, Hucclecote
Gloucester GL3 3PG
U.K.

Sorry, but I don't have current information because I haven't been a member in recent years. I do have a pretty good run of the HALF FRAMER from ~1993 to ~2002.
