Hi,

Has anyone any experience with a Canon "Barnack" style camera that has a shutter wheeze when the shutter releases? On my camera I get a fairly consistent noise like this after the first "dry fire". Usually the first shot or two is OK sounding and then this noise begins. There is no such noise if I operate the camera on the slow speeds. The shutter operates at all speeds and seems to time OK.
Is this noise symptomatic of a particular type of repair needed? What should I look at first?
Thanks for any responses and suggestions.

Steve

Probably the bearings between the drum for the closing curtain and the main shaft of the shutter speed dial, which is the opening curtain. The shaft is steel, the drum is very lightweight aluminum or brass. When the lubrication there is gone, or ossified, you get a squeak.

Sounds like it's time for a clean/lube/adjust. These bearings are not durable to abuse.
