I was wondering if you have any suggestions? My canon L-1 shutter has jammed. The button is stuck in the down position, the shutter is not cocked although the advanced lever is locked as though it were. Also the knob that toggles the camera between forward and advance is stuck in the advance position. I checked to see if there is film stuck in the shutter, there is not.

No idea what has happened. Never heard of this problem before, but either something mechanical has happened to interrupt the function of the shutter release, or something (like a piece of film) has somehow become stuck under the return spring; if the latter, the release button should come up when you pull on it, but will not stay up. If the former, you need a repairman, and probably for the latter too. Peter D

Joe,

Sounds like the shutter release has jammed - there is a pin that clears another pin when you push down the relaese button. If these have not cleared properly, the button will stay down and the wind will be locked.. I suppose it is just possible that a film chip (or some other loose cr*p) has become wedged between the pins. The other possibility is that the rewind cam has come loose from its mount and jammed the mechanism - this will also dpress the shutter release.

Looks like a pertial dismantle is required to confirm.

Hi, This post of mine is very knowledgable and may enhance the information of the viewers , however I would like some specific information for myself. If someone can help me then please send me a private message. Best Regards,

Great, I'll PM you with some wholesale billiards questions right away!!!!!

So this shutter issue...the same thing happened to my with my P, about three minutes after removing it from the box it came to me in. The camera just locked up, with the shutter release down. I eventually "fixed" it by fussing around with the rewind switch--not sure about the L, but on the P it's the knurled ring around the shutter release, which ironically, on most cameras, is the shutter lock.

I have now sent the camera off for a CLA, for a different reason...but even if you get yours working again, this might be a good idea.
