minor disaster over thanksgiving. my beloved canon 28/2.8 ltm sort of collapsed on one side. the focusing ring is now at an angle to the rest of the lens.

does anyone have suggestions about who to send my lens to for repair?

If I remember correctly, the Canons have only a small piece of metal linking the aperture ring to the aperture mechanism. There might be something wrong with that, maybe it got bent.

Maybe there's other members who can chime in to shine light on this?

Many of the Canon LTM lenses will come apart very easily. All that is needed is a sharp spanner to remove the rear retaining ring. Usually the optical/aperture group separates cleanly from the focusing helical.

If you can get this far into it, you may be able to find the problem yourself. Could just be that the group/s attached to the aperture mechanism on the front need to be tightened or taken off then re-threaded on. The threads on these aluminum barrels are incredibly fine and it's not improbable that a fall could have knocked the front group off by a thread.

If you're brave, I say do it yourself. If not, there's always many folks out there (and some here on RFF) who are able to fix the problem.

Good luck!

bad experience..

bad experience..

Sherry Krauter cleaned and overhauled my Canon 50/1.8 earlier this year and did a wonderful job. I'm sure she'll do repairs, too. Highly recommended.
Not my case: bad results from Sherry on my canon 0.95 and 7 s, with no response.....:bang:

This sounds like a simple problem that anyone with experience working on mechanical cameras should have no trouble with. Sherry and DAG are Leica experts, but this isn't a "tough job". Someplace like Essex Camera will have no trouble, and quick turnaround.
