I was perusing the ShopGoodwill site tonight, and they had a Canon LTM that had the EP mark on it. I know what that stands for ("Exchange Post", sold on US Miltary bases in Japan), but when I went to the Canon Camera Museum site, I had great difficulty cross referencing the particular model because the shutter speeds on the top dial didn't match any configuration on the Canon site.

The speeds shown in the specifications tables either start with 1/25 and end with 1/1000, or start with 1/30 and end with 1/500. This camera starts with 1/30 and ends with 1/1000. The mutant spawn of a IIIA and a Iv Sb2? It has the vertically slotted winding knob that started on the IIIA, and a slow speed dial that I couldn't read from their photos.

Slow shutter split at 1/30, high speed of 1/1000, and a flash rail. My guess is a IVSB2

The IVSB2 had a redesigned and slightly larger viewfinder than the preceeding cameras (although still very small by later standards). I cannot pick it from the photos though and I do not recall the shutter speed split on this camera (as I sold mine a while back) but think it had the higher slow speed of 1/30th and a higher top speed of 1/1000th (as would be logical given the "upmarket" cachet associated with that specific model.)

I was thinking IVSb2, but then the Canon Museum site has been known to make a few clerical errors on their specification sheets. Thanks for all the imput.

Def. an IVSB2. The 2 piece concentric shutter speed dial and the serrated washer between the film advance knob and the frame counter wheel, are 2 salient indicators.

Thanks, Frank.

Brian, I've seen an uptick in prices on Goodwill this past year, and it's mostly on the collectable or trendy stuff. Something like an Exakta will get posted, and it's got six bids in the first hour. I guess the days before folks started spreading the word about the site are long gone, although I did luck out with my Yashica GL.

Any guesses what it will sell for in the end? I'm guessing $500 as higher end camera gear seems to sell higher there than on ebay. 🙂

I've noticed this as well, years ago it was a well kept secret and you could get stuff for pennies. However recently (even within the past year) prices have skyrocketed. It's almost as if everyone still thinks that it's a secret so all the prices are going to be cheap. I've stopped using it for this reason.

Well, I've also stopped using it because seeing auctions like this drive me up the wall! That camera came from a goodwill not 10 minutes away :bang: Not only that, but that store typically keeps good stuff in store rather than putting on shop goodwill! Gah!

We've got a bunch of Goodwills here in the valley, and there are folks who spend all day driving from one to another to glean the shelves of anything with decent value, then spend all night posting it on eBay.

After 17 bids, it went for $377.67, plus shipping. Hope it's not in the same shape as my Yashica YF was. But then I got that at the store, and new of the problems before hand. And didn't pay half that much for it. In fact, the Canon 50/1.8 that was on it is worth at least as much as what I paid for the camera and lens. That is, after I cleaned it up.

Guess what, pdexposures? Whomever bought that IVSb apparently didn't pay for it, cause it's back up for bid. I thought the photo looked familiar, because they didn't even bother to change the original incorrect listing (calling it a Model EB). And they are running my identification note to them in scrolling letters. Talk about being obstinate.
