Canon P Christmas

Christmas morning came and my wife left this little fellow under the tree for me. Seems to be in pretty good shape. A bit of minor wrinkling of the shutter curtain and a very tiny bit of oil on the curtain. Shutter speeds sound good and the RF window is pretty bright.

I've got my 35 UC hexanon on it right now. Still questing for a LTM 50 and just can't decide what way to go.
Currently leaning toward the 50 summarit, Canon 50 1.8, or a 50 Summicron collapsable.

Shot a test roll. Just need to get it processed now.

But I just wanted to say thanks again for the advice on the camera. It sure seems to be built like a tank and should make a nice film companion for the M8.
 
I don't have a Canon P yet. They're awfully expensive. I do have a couple of 7's, and they are indeed built like tanks.

I really like the look of the P. Very simple design. Classic. I hope you enjoy it.

As for 50s, I like my Canon 1.2. I have the 0.95 also, but I'm still learning how to use the thing effectively. And the 0.95 prices are absurd lately.
 
I've had a Nikkor 50/1.4 on a Canon LTM body since I bought both of them in the mid-70s. Solid. Small. Sharp. What's not to like?

Yeah, the Nikkor is on my list as well. But I fear it will be a little outside my preferred price point for this. And they seem to be pretty hard to find.
 
Congratulations! You must have been on Santa's "nice" list.🙂 I hope you enjoy the P. It's a wonderful camera body for the 50mm lens, and your short list includes some of the best. FWIW, the 50/3.5 Elmar collapses fully into the P (you have to be careful to turn the barrel slightly as you collapse it), and makes a compact street shooting combo. Worth considering as the Elmars can be had fairly cheaply these days. The Canon 50/1.8 balances v. well w/ the P.

I would love to have a 35/2 UC Hexanon to shoot on mine! (envy, envy)
 
I just saw the Canon 50/1.8 lens on your short list. Fine lens. My first RF lens on my first RF camera. Sold both a long time ago. DUMB! The 50/1.8 lens is really nice.
 
congratulation. i would also love present like that. in last few months i was watcing those canon p cameras, and i like them more and more every day. i love its simple design, and also 35mm viewfinder. so if someone have some cheap or broken p(which i would try to repair) write message here or pm me.
 
OR--- For VERY little money you can get an Industar 61 or 26M (the 26m is on my Canon P as we speak) and the results are amazing. Don't be quich to dismiss the FSU lenses! The J9 did great on the P as well, I used the 90 framelines for this 85mm lens. For the price of a Canon lens you can get two or three FSU lenses. IMHO.
 
Great camera, I enjoyed mine very much and would not have sold it save the fact that I wanted to get into m-mount lenses. You've found a great 35mm lens for it however! cheers

"awfully expensive" compared to what? new-in-box bessas, feds, etc. The 7 seemed to be price just under the P so not that much more expensive it seems. (Then again, I just spent 250$ for a P, and I could have gotten the EX condition Canon 7 on keh for about 180$).

The camera looks very nice with that UC, as far as the list your leaning towards, I would exclude the 50 'cron collapsible, you'll beat up the light baffles in the P if you collapse that lens, the other two I can't say I had experience with the summarit, but I did really like the Canon 50/1.8 (which seems almost as heavy as the camera 😀).

I've found a Black Jupiter-12 (35/2.8) and Canon P to be a nice match if you're on a budget for lens. The 85mm FSU lens seem to have far more inconsistancies than obtaining a J-12...
 
Well, my Jupiter 9 (see my avatar with the Canon P wearing a good J9) pairs up nicely. I also tried the J8 and Industar 26m. I think I alsi tried my I-61 L/D, but can't find any shots on my flickr account as proof, so I'm not sure. I don't shoot 35 as much as I do 50 or 85.
 
I ended up grabbing a Canon 50 1.8 that popped up in the classified section. I think I will eventually switch to a 50 Summarit or the Nikkor 5 1.4.
But I'll use the canon for now and see how that goes.
