Joe, check www.photoequip.net

I don't remember the name of the person I talked to there (must check my inbox) but he was really helpful. By sending them a sketch of the different views of the camera body with measurings (mainly regarding the location of the tripod socket) they will be able to tell you if their Leica M grip fits the P.

If not, another option is... build it yourself using plain ol' wood, for example :)

I need some coffee now, I'm falling asleep and I'm sure users will start calling with problems very soon

Makes me remember that cop movie, don't remember its title, where they said 'see that phone ? when it rings, it means problems'.

Ok, time for a bump.

I was tampering a bit with the bits box yesterday and took off the 'grip' piece from a dead Minolta XG-M, not bad but still the piece should be attached in some way and in fact it doesn't provide a big enough frontal grip for my taste.

Obviously the easiest way would be to adapt another grip. The Leica M ones looks close, so if somebody owns both cameras (Leica M and Canon P/7) and one grip and could try and let us know...

Anyway, I'll mail the guys at photoequip with a diagram of the P baseplate and cross my fingers...

oscar,
i've never given up the hunt.
what we need is someone with some woodworking skills to 'create' a couple for us.
yeah, nice smooth wood, with maybe red leather attached to it...

You could also try "I Yoon" at inoyoon2002@yahoo.com. He makes custom handgrips for the Pentax 67 from aluminum and wood, and is located in a place called Fresh Meadows, New York. Maybe he makes other grips as well, and/or could be interested in doing one for the Canon.

Joe,
If you are interested in a grip/handle, check out Stephen Gandy's site (cameraquest.com). Cosina/Voigtlander makes a couple of styles that screw into the tripod hole. Chuck

are you thinking about the handle ones that are below the camera? (like the bulb)
not my style.
i'm thinking about a side grip like the bessa one.

Joe,
Have you seen the Grip-bubble-level thing that screws into the tripod socket that Canon made original to the L1? If not, I can post a picture of it.

yes i have and have considered getting one to see if it could be adapted.
it looks kinda big & heavy though so i have put it off.
wish i was a handy kind of guy though.

got a reply on today's email...

Hello,

Sorry, I do not have that model canon camera to work from.
So far I have custom designed grips for the Pentax 67 and Leica M model.

Thank you for your interest,

Ino

i guess i could send him one of the 'P's...

I don't see any of his auctions on eBay now, either current or completed. Seller name on eBay is "Inoyoon"... Maybe he's not selling his grips that way any more?
