Canon P Needs CLA & TLC

Hi, All. I just bought a Canon P. It's a beautiful camera. Really clean. Reasonably priced, so I bought it and intend to use it the remaining years of my life, and its life. 🙂 However, it hasn't seen action all this years. Ergo, its shutter sounds rickety and not buttery smooth. It came with a 50mm f/1.8 lens, but I just found out that it, too, needs TLC. Its got some haze, but it's not really that bad. 😱 So, would you please, recommend me a good technician/repair person for my Canon P? Both camera and lens need to see a doctor. 🙂

Your recommendations/thoughts are highly appreciated. Really, really appreciated.

I sent my Canon P to Essex Camera in August - came back in very good order. I have no complaints - the bill came to $159.00

I have had a couple of Canons overhauled by DAG camera, located in Wisconsin. Mine were the Canon 7s model, but I imagine that DAG works on the P as well.

I'll just chime in and also say that DAG, as always, did a terrific job on my Canon L1 (adjusted rangefinder). He is a great fellow and a master technician.

DAG overhauled my M3 - he does great work.

The only reason I used Essex on my P was, honestly, to save a couple of bucks and get it back faster.

DAG is working on my P and 50 1.8 now... I will report on the results, but thus far, his communication and general personage has been very good indeed.

I have had two Canon P's overhauled at Essex. $118 each which included shipping. I did not send the lens in to be cleaned. I am very happy with the results.

JohnM: Lately I had spent lots of money on camera stuff. I had heard so many good things about DAG--but like you, I need to save some dough, which is why I am looking for an alternative place.:angel:

RogueDesigner: Please update us, if you don't mind, regarding your Canon P and lens, currently being worked on by DAG.

Wayne: Thanks for giving another vote of confidence for Essex Camera.

Personally speaking, camera repairs could cause neurosis.🙂
