Hello everyone. Back in 2016 i got lucky and found a Canon P in my hometown in Romania for 20$ but it had a tear in the shutter curtain and I stopped using it since then.

Now I want to breath new life into it and I am wondering if it's possible to replace the shutter curtain from its current rubberized metal to a cloth shutter?

Probably. The Canon P shares many of the same mechanicals of the Canon VT and L-series of Canon rangefinders. Many of these Canons came with cloth curtains. It shouldn't be hard for a qualified repair tech to substitute cloth for metal.

Ouch. My personal sense is the metal shutter is an improvement over cloth--The metal shutters have generally proven more durable, and the metal won't pinhole from sunlight like the cloth will. Given the choice, I'd replace it with metal. But you might be restrained by whatever you can find.
