Can I safely collapse a Summitar 50/2 into my Canon P?

I'm sorry if my question has been answered in some earlier thread. I tried search but I couldn't find anything for Summitar and Canon P exactly. The case of Bessa R has been discussed and the answer is no. I think the same applies for Canon P but I just want to be sure.

Thanks!

Absolutely no problem with my Canon 7s, so it should be the same with the Canon P. The Summitar does not allow the barrel of the lens to rotate freely, it can only collapse with the bayonet lugs at 10:00, 2:00, and 6:00. So it won't scrape the baffle at the top of the camera.

Just don't try and unscrew it collapsed. Always mount and unmount it extended.

The problem collapsible lenses are the 50/3.5 Elmar (and all it's clones from Canon, Nikon, Industar, etc.), and the 50/2.0 Summar. Again, if you are careful about orientation, you can collapse them, just rotate only 60 degrees CCW from locked.
