I've come across a Canon P, original black paint, baseplate winder. It is in excellent condition. I'm trying to find out exactly how rare it is? Thanks

Canon P at Cameraquest: "Black paint Leica mount Canon Rangefinders like this beautiful P are very rare. Very few were made to begin with, fewer survived in this condition. Probably only a few hundred black P's were produced."

To clarify, by baseplate winder, do you mean bottom-wind?

I don't think the P is particularly rare; it's a nice camera, my favorite of the Canons. Never encountered a bottom winder, but there was another model, I think the VT, that had a trigger wind on the bottom instead of the top mounted advance lever.

Do you have a serial number? That would help to identify the model.
