Canon Serenar 35 / 2.8: good deal?

I have the chance to buy this lens locally for $200. I haven't seen it yet, but the seller says the glass is good--the only problem is that there's a small piece of black barrel paint loose inside.

How much of a problem is that? Is it easy to remove? Can I do it, or would I have to send it off to a tech?

One just went on eBay, mint, with finder, for $235. I think I'm going to say no, and continue saving up for an M2...

LOL - Good luck with that. $50 would be great for a J12. They have been going for a lot more than that lately. And they're more likely to have "issues" than a Canon/Serenar. Before a J12, I'd look into a nice used CV Skopar Classic, if you don't want an "old" lens.

Great lens in its era. I agree, $200 isn't terrible, but you can get one for less if you look around.

Avoid lenses with the smallest amount of haze, they are terrible with backlite.
It seems so that most (black) 50/1.8 and (all) 35/2.8 are prone to uncurable haze/ fungus

I got one from Ebay for $130.00 with a lucky bid. I love it and will not ever sell it. The shots came out wonderful with a lot of contrast and detail. I see the 3.5 version selling for pay it now for around $350.00 which I think is over priced. I purchased a Voigtlander 35-2.5 before but when I saw how low the bidding was I took a chance on the Canon and won the bid. Frankly I can't tell the difference lens results, both beautiful.

Way back in the mid-70s I got a Canon 35/2.8 with both Canon caps, case, finder & hood more or less for free. It's still in perfect condition.

I got a Canon (post Serenar) <EP> labeled 35 2.8 + finder in original leather case for 132.50 US$ about two years ago.
It's a great lens, but $200 is too much!
