Canon VT deluxe and 2/35 - how much $$

Someone offered me a 'user grade' Canon VT deluxe and 2/35, fully working.

How much do you think is the maximum I should pay for that?

I picked up a Canon Vt with 50/1.2 for $450 at a camera show. The 35/2 is the best of the Canon 35's, and can go for a bit more than the 50/1.2. I would guess the $500~$600 range is fair, but prices are all over the place.

Frankly, I'd opt for a Model P ($300) w/ a 35/ 2.8 ($250) or an even more useful focal length, the 28/ 2.8 or 3.5 ($350?). I've got a 35/2 and think it's good, but vastly overpriced.

Got my 35/2 for $300.00 and I think it's worth every cent, especially if you like getting sharp landscape photos above f5.6. The bokeh isn't that great and neither is sharpness at f2 but the compactness and performance are very good for a 45 year old lens!

Ooookay... I heard your advice and bought the camera with 2/35. This stopped me from buying a new, cheap but in my eyes overpriced Voigtländer 1.4/35.

I paid 380 bucks (camera and lens) 😀

Now I have it... WOW! That is one camera I really, really like. Perfect craftmanship, and though it is actually an antiquity it has some features that my M6 lacks: a zoom finder that enables me to enlarge the center rangefinder spot. Incredible. Film loading is better than with every Leica I ever used. Nice lens, but I have no large prints yet. The lens has lost a lot of barrel paint, so it was really used - but aperture and focussing are like in a factory-new Leica lens.

Thanks for all your help 😀

Canon rangefinders are terrific buys and wonderful users, I think. I picked up a second Canon P the other day with the intension of selling the body and keeping the lens. But after handling it a bit I'm thinking I'll keep it all. Just needs a CLA. 225 for the camera w/ Canon 50/1.8.

380 for your kit seems like a good deal.

the VT is a mighty handful of a camera.
these hefty machines are better for holding slow shutter speeds steady.

You got a decent deal at that price. The lens, in good optical shape, is a good value in the low 200's, cosmetic don't take pictures....
The camera is a decent buy in the same range, so $450 would have been something around average. It's a very nice combo, and a nice street machine, if you can read light, or carry an unobtrusive meter,

Today I shot my first roll with that camera....

I can hardly believe what I see: this is a wonderful lens. Some light falloff in the corners, a little soft in the corners, but only wide open. At f 2.8 or 4 it is sharp, has more than enough contrast.

So, I looked at the negs... and now I looked at the lens... maybe it is a good idea to take off that vintage Canon skylight filter which is so filthy... no kidding, I really made my test shots with a dirty filter, and I still love the lens.
