I own several Canonet 28's. There are so many of them that they are very cheap (<20 Euro). If possible, get one with a Canolite D flash. That flash is coupled to the rangefinder. Canonet 28's are fine cameras, not as refined as the QL19 or QL17, but capable of producing good photos. A good easy to use (no manual override) rangefinder.

Since you're new to the game, you might get whichever is in good shape.

Both are excellent p&s rangefinders with some degree of manual control by exposure lock or changing asa. From memory, the Konica is smaller and has a tab for focusing, which is helpful. The Canonet is larger and possibly better made. The Konica lens is very well regarded adn has beautiful colour rendition. The Canonet is no slouch though.

The Canonet 28 Has its own Movie
The Canonet 28 is immortalized in arguably one of the best photog movies, with arguably the worst name for a photog movie "Pecker" -- available on DVD, easily found on Ebay.

on top of that,
I have seen far too many non working Konica C35's.

For what it's worth, I always like the pictures from the Konica C35, they are sharp and have a nice 3D rendition.
The Canonet, on the other hand never impresses me so much. It's ok, not great. But I am talking about the Canonet GIII QL17, not the 28, which may or may not have the same lens.

I have both, my C35 was non-working but it was just a little corrosion on the battery terminal wire, a blob of solder later and "she's alive".
The feature set is the same, or extremely close, but I definitely prefer the Konica lens!

Shadowfox,
I think the G-III QL17 shows quite a bit of sample variation, I've had 3, my first (stolen!) was the best of them.
The Canonet 28 is a little worse, not bad, sharp stopped down, but somehow lifeless.

I have the Konica C35 and I love it. So small, couldn't recommend it more. meter is spot-on, and the lens is super sharp and contrasty.
Here are two from my crappy scanner, no pp

I also just had two rolls of provia slide film developed, and under the loupe the exposures are spot on and brilliant! (can't say as much for the pictures themselves, but that's my fault) I will post some once I've scanned them.
Anyway, long story short, the C35 is wonderful. It is essentially a point and shoot, as there is no manual option. It's tiny, you just frame, focus, shoot, enjoy!

I've got a Canonet 28 I'd be willing to send you for just the cost of postage if you're in the CONUS. I can't say I've been too impressed with the camera, but you're free to try it out. PM me.
