When I look at all the avatars here, it strikes me how many cat pictures there are... So, let's hear your preference.. and show your pictures..

I'm very much a cat person. 🙂 I've had cats ever since I was very young. We occasionally had dogs (sometimes both at once) but it wasn't the same. I love most all animals, though. 🙂

Definitely cats! They scratch and gets moody but I just cannot help but to love them! 🙂

They say a dog is a man's best friend. What they don't realize is that man is a dog's best butler. With cats you know you're always negotiating space and attention. Canon/Nikon, Leica/Bessa, cats/dogs, Yankees/Red Sox, St. Germaine/Lyon, it all makes the world go round...

It has been my experience that folks who like to control everything around them detest cats. Most dogs love to please. Cats, on the other hand, seem to believe they are doing us a favor by eating our food and allowing themselves to be petted. But cats really don't give a rat's rear end about what humans think. That's why I like 'em. Cats are free spirits.

I have a cat that I think was a dog in his former life. He likes going out for walks (on a leash), fetches balls, has quite a loud meow when he wants something, greets all visitors, and --strangest of all-- doesn't mind having his belly rubbed. But everything else he's very much a cat. He lets me pet him when he thinks I've deserved it.

I one of my cats has noticed how many more treats my dogs get compared to my cats so he is in dog training. He now is hanging out with the dogs, follows them around, lays on the floor next to them, and sits right in line when the pantry door opens. He weighs close to 20 lbs, but still hasn't mastered the 15 second consumption of a Milk Bone ability yet.

I think this is the reason I identify with cats too.

Cats are natural con artists. They have figured out that they don't have to spend all of their waking hours seeking out birds, rodents, and similar fare when they can con humans into taking them in and giving them and all-you-can-eat buffet, shelter, plenty of toys, and better medical care than some humans get. All they really have to do is feign interest in humans every so often. 🙂 🙂

I love and have both. I agree with kiev4a, I remember reading somewhere that many known writers were cat lovers, while dictators, military leaders, etc. hated them.

I'm a control freak, but I appreciate and admire cats for their independence, I adore dogs for their loyalty. I think my dogs are more like my chidren, my cat is more like a buddy--an old, grouchy one at that...

As for taking pictures, my Siamese cat's blue eyes always gave flash some trouble. Other cats I've had with other eye colors were much better, though could still reflect flash. Cats don't move much, so makes them easier to photograph than hyperactive dogs, but dogs can be commanded to stay in place or certain positions, cats can't seem to be told to do anything they don't want to!

Here's my brady bunch. Not the best picture, but it's rare that they're all together in one place.

I like both cats and dogs, but voted for dogs in the poll. I read or heard somewhere that dogs have been domesticated a lot longer than cats (something absurd like 1000 years or so). In honor of that alliance/allegiance the very least I can do is click a button in an OT poll in favor of the man's best friend. 😀

🙂

somone once said, "the greatest trick the devil ever played was making the world believe he didn't exist" (or something to that effect). This is the feline equivalent to that quote: The greatest trick cats have ever played was making the world believe they are free spirits. 🙂

🙂

Dogs are for athletic, sports-loving outdoors people.
Cats are for artsy types, lovers of the good life, indoor people.

I voted for cats, never really liked dogs...
