CCD Cleaning advise

HI,

My CCD is covered in dust. What's the best way to clean it all off? I tried blowing it but i can't get it all off.

You can try.. and I mean try this method:

But.. I'm not sure how the CCD is set up in an RD-1 - that method listed above is for Canon/Nikon DSLRs (maybe Pentax and Minoltas too). I can tell you that I've used that method on my Canon 20D and previously on my 10D and it worked fine but as I said, I do not know what the CCD set up is like in an RD-1.

Ugly man.. that's just ugly..

Good luck with it.. if you can take a photo of it you should be able to clean it as long as it's a "standard" sensor - blowing it will just move the dust around unfortunately.

Jeez .. what did you do with that sensor .... used the cam as a pinhole camera ???

I used the copperhill method suggested by Dave with great succes on th R-D1 ... get the spatula for Nikon D70/D100 type camera. I used a larger (1Ds) spatula and it worked great! Wet cleaning looks really necessary with your Camera.
Be carefull .... read the instructions a couple of times .. and do a test on other surface (mirror or something) to try and get a feeling for the pressure needed!

I ahve used these sensor beushes for almost a year now and they are quite good. They remove my dust baout 90% of the time, making wet cleans farther apart. These little brushes are not cheap but they sure do their job.

The CCD shown here is nasty and will more than likely require a wet clean.

This dirty CCD has got to be blown or brushed BEFORE wet cleaning as I would hate to drab that debis across the CCD. Good reason to have the sensor brush!
 
Here is a little test to do. shoot a white surface at around f8 and see what is on the ccd. Go to an art store and buy a 1/2" wide nylon bristle art brush and a can of compressed air. Blow the bristles with a 10 second burst of air and the gently stroke the CCD one time. Then take the photo again

Well I cleaned the sensor with, wait for it, ear buds and a none alcoholic fluid! It’s spotless now. Thanks for the info; I’ll be getting some Nikon swabs ASAP.

I'd take a pic but I don't have my 350d with me.
