I bought an M6, my first range finder, so I don't have any lenses.
I want to get a very cheap lens ~$100 $150 USD to play around with the camera until I save up for the 35mm
any ideas ? I thought I could get a Russian screw mount and an adapter

Check out "Moscowphoto" seller on the you-know-what site. They sell unused Jupiter 8 lenses for around 50$. You'll need an adapter too but you are still below the $100 mark.

Russian stuff is pretty good, mostly if you use it at sharper apertures. Wide open they use to be soft and you might find slight focus problems when shooting close range.

But hey, the J8 and J12 are so cheap that they DO worth to play around with. The big point is try to get russian lenses from a good seller that actually tested them.

wow I wonder how long it takes to get here, do you know of any adapter that just "works"

I've got two lenses I'm passively selling in my signature. Both worked well but I've upgraded since then. It typically takes like 2 weeks for the lenses to show up from the FSU. Look on my flickr for examples from those lenses.fedka is also a solid option to buy old Russian glass

Go to KEH and buy the Canon 1.8/50.
It's a keeper lens.
If you just want a little cheapo russian. I have a 3.5/50 Industar I could send you for $35. It's here in the states (your state in fact).
Pretty sharp little lens but slowish and cheaply made barrel.
Take the Canon :)

One lens that can be found for that inexpensive amount is the Elmar 90 f4 SLM. Granted, you still need an adapter but it's Leica glass. ;)

And it looks funky on the M6! :)

I don't think you tagged your photos ? is there anyway to know which photo was taken with which lens ?
btw if you tag your photos you get much more views

I have a
50mm 1.4
70-200mm 2.8 is
17-40mm f/4
45mm ts-e f/2.8
what I need is an EOS to M adaptor not a 50mm 1.8 lol

I have a Jupiter-8 for sale if you are interested. See the link in my signature to my classified ad.

I dont have an adapter though.

Edit: The canon 50/1.8 that people are referring to above is a leica screw mount lens. You can see it in KEH's "canon rangefinder" section. It will work fine on your M6 with a ltm -> m adapter.

Whether you buy a lens from -doomed- or from www.fedka.com or from David, I'd advise you not to try to save money when buying an M adapter. CV ones are $55 each and fedka has good ones (I have two of them) for $52 each.

The lens I have for sale came from fedka :p

I agree with payasam. I also advise not to skimp on the adapters. Keep in mind that you can always use them on other ltm lenses too!

My SM Elmar 50/3.5, SM Summar 50/2 and Elmar-M 50/2.8 were all in the $100-150USD range. All off ebay.

As for J8's, it might be cheaper to get one already attached to a camera :).

I bought an elmar 5cm f2.8 couple of weeks ago from ebay for ~160$. It is M mount. So you dont need adaptor...

I'd get either a CV Skopar or a 40mm rokkor/cron-c. Or the aforementioned Canon. Those are more like $200-$350, but if it's your first lens on the camera I think you'll just end up frustrated by the FSU lenses. My J-9 does some really pretty stuff, but it's a bit wonky and I think when you're first learning a camera you'd be better served being able to distinguish between a lens' mistakes and your own. With an FSU you won't know.

The Jupiter 8 is an excellent lens. I'm told it's a Zeiss copy, and a very faithful one at that.
Another good one is the Industar 50 collapsible. Amazing lens.

I would surely look for a well used Elmar 50mm 2.8 old version with clean glass.
If you are a person that resists GAS you might have a keeper.

What f16sunshine means is a Canon 50 1.8 rf lens with 39mm thread, you need the adapter and yes buy a Voigtlander adapter its worth the extra$

cheers,
Wim
