Cheapskate WTB medium format scanner

I have prints, 35mm AND 120 film negatives I'd like to scan.

I WON'T be making prints from the negatives using my PC;
I only want the ability to store and send the images digitally.

Is there a decent flatbed scanner for me priced under $200.00?

I got a Canon Canonscan 8400f last year for less than $200. Does a decent job.

It has been replaced by the Canoscan 8600f, which is supposed to do even better job. No personal experiences though. Unlike Epson 4490 Photo and V700, it does not support large format scanning, only 35 mm and 120 film.

Someone on Apug was selling an Epson 2450 just 2 weeks ago for $50.00. For web work, you don't need much high dpi anyway. Scan high, resize for web.

I bought a cheap Epson Perfection scanner on the bay for about $50. It works just great.

Better than the more expensive 35mm only scanner I used it to replace. Takes loads of different neg sizes too.

The Canons looked good too, but at $99 shipped I just couldn't resist the refurbed 4490 from Epson.
Thanks for the recommendations. Wish me luck with my first scanner...

The 4490 doesn't support larger than 120 either.

Quite right. I was thinking about the 4990, which of course is much more expensive.

I, too have been needing, ok, wanting, a scanner for a long time. I've had my eye on something else listed in the classifieds and contacted the seller yesterday, but it didn't work out (bad luck?), so after reading this thread yesterday, and thinking about it overnight, I decided to go ahead and follow your lead and order the refurbished 4490. I placed the order this morning, and to my surprise there is currently an additional discount and the scanner is $88 shipped! (good luck?). I just want to archive years of photos/negatives and it sounds like just the tool for that.
