Chinese Red Flag 20 and lenses

The Chinese language pinhole cameras site(http://www.pinhole.cdd.cn) was down for a few days but it is back up now and there is now a link to an English language version!😀

The guy has discontinued production of the wooden/bamboo cameras--apparently there were some problems with the wood changing dimensions in different humidity levels--maybe only temporarily; but is now offering some aluminium bodied cameras.
And it has been a pleasure to correspond with him.
I expect to buy a camera and some other stuff from him early next month.

Yes, humidity is a major problem here in Asia. I am thinking about buying a Chinese made wooden 4x5, but still undecided, since I have to keep the camera in a plastic box to keep the wood dry.

The area around Hong Kong and Shenzhen, it is acturally the largest light industrial area in China. Other than major factories there are thousand of small workshops with metal stamping and even CNC capability, it will be much easier for him to produce his camera to a higher standard. I would think it is easier to find a desent metal workshop/business then one working with wood in this area.

Waw! I regret let go a NIB Dong Feng for RMB 9,000.:bang: That guy has quite a few rare items.

Dong Feng 120 SLR has many versions, black, white,... and only a few dozen cameras were made. It has a top speed of 1/1000 for a leaf shutter.😀
The last auction record that I remember was RMB 130,000 a few years ago.

Correct. That is a "east wind".

I have found a 16mm 1:1.6 lens. Not sure what it is for. It has a M35 thread mount. Maybe for a vedio camera? It focuses from 0.3m to infinate. ALso found two more early anamorphic lenses without marking of manufacturer and S/N. Another image is a very well made Chinese polarizing microscope by a military factory for military use. Quality and finish of these items are a notch above civilian products.😀

I would guess is a movie/video lens or some sort, I think TV Cameras still use a C-mount!?

Ever take photos throught the one of your microscopes?

The missle lens could be a 1700mm F8 optic so that it could not compare with the Zeiss 1700/4.:bang: The problem is that the the image plane is too close to the lens barrel so that a major modification is required. Then what am I going to shoot with it?😕 Yes, I could attach a digital P/S to the eye piece.🙂

Do you happen to know the price of that 1700/4 monster? A similar ex-military US missle lens like mine could sell for about 20K.

$2m+ RMB?

Those 200mm refractors are in the region of $80k USD, so I guess this one will cost way more

But the Rolex was a fake!

Rolex in 1950-60's was not that expensive. They cost only a few hundred RMBs. But an ounce of 24K gold was only 90 RMB in late 50's.🙂

A fake Rolex can be found for 50-60 RMB right now in Beijing's flea market, and no one buys them. I have one for a laugh. It has a gold plated Miyota type automatic movement with hacking feature, and an interesting dial. I PSed a little bit of the dial to rescue it from an ugly fake.😀

For a change, here are a few rare vintage Chinese mechanical lady watches. They all have a Chinese 17j, 19j and 24j movements. I bet no one has seen them before. They are not that common even in China. These were made since 1959(Shanghai A592).🙂

That sounds like a good price for a body plus two lenses. I feel that film cameras's prices are going down for digital wave. I really hope that China could produce a low cost interchangeable lens rangefiner for my Russian optics.🙂

Incidentally, the EUR price is without VAT, so if you're in Europe, you have to add another 16% and get a final price of EUR 15,038 (15,028 with the RFF sponsor discount). This is interesting because the price label in the picture itself says EUR 13,000, and German law requires price labels to show the final price including VAT. So it looks like the seller is trying to make an extra couple of thousand EUR or so off taxes and hopes that nobody will notice. It might be cheaper to go to to Nuremberg and buy it in his shop rather than off eBay, because you won't have to pay the taxes twice.

Someone (hope was his web name) made a very capable digi-back with a Chinese digital P/S, and shot a moon image that is even sharper than my Canon 300D plus a MTO 1000A.:bang:
