Ever heard of the art promoter called 中艺联(北京)文化发展中心 ?
Will be dealing with them on representation on a certain Hong Kong artist.
Do you know any other Art Promoter/Gallery/Dealer in BJ?
Cheers
Will
Hi Will,
Sorry I never dealt with this organizaion. I don't have much connection with the art circle. I know someone in "August 1st" movie Studio. One of my 1951 Kiev 2 was owned by one of the directors. This studio usually shot government propaganda movies.
I saw a brand new Heping 35II 35mm movie camera for sale for RMB 8,000. It is a Arri 35 II copy. It is more often seen than my Chunfeng SX16K.
Cheers,
Zhang

Hi all,
There is an ORIGINAL RED FLAG camera in Mint (no really!) condition on EvilBay, item nr. 320162913319.
Yes, you may not be able to afford it, but it features great digital shots of this camera, best I have come across so far.

Hi,
Just checked the big bay, and there are 3 Red Flag 20s for sale! The 'mint' one cost 30K usd! These was good investment if I bought them for 3-4K USD some years ago. Maybe one day, some rare Soviet cameras could catch up.
Here is a China made DPRK military watch shown in an American movie.:bang:

Oh that's interesting! "1992.4.25" = the supposed 60th anniversary of the Korean People's Army, which is not strictly true, as prior to 1940 Korean communists and Kim Il Sung fought (with notable courage) as part of the Chinese First Route Army under Yang Jingyu. A very interesting watch!
Cheers, Ian

Leica shop has many rare Chinese and Soviet cameras, and westlicht auctions always have interesting cameras for sale. Don't know how much my missle tracking lens could fetch at that auction.

Hi Ian,
I am really surprised that you know this is a 60th anniversary watch of the Korean People's Army. I have this watch, but did not know what it is until recently.
Best Regards

Hallo Zhang,
I am very interested indeed in North Korean history and China in the 30s. The terrible struggle against Japan in Manchuria has particular interest, because there is a tendency (at least in western historians) to concentrate on Yan'an, whilst until very recently DPRK historians depicted Kim Il-Sung as the sole focus of resistance in the region. The story of those times deserves telling.
Yang Jingyu was a remarkable man, but I am particularly interested in Wei Zhengmin, whose influence on the young Kim was enormous.
Interesting days - for those of us who live long after them!
Zhang, are those watches widely available in China? You can probably hear what I'm thinking
the very best to you! , Ian

Hi Zhang,
That's alright, decided to go with them at the end, finalising the contracts for now.
HK is getting cooler (still air con at night), weather going good at BJ?

Hello Ian,
Good on you on digging up the history of North East China and Korea. There were so much injustice commited to the people in those area ever since the late 1800s, not only by the Japanese, but also by Europeans and the Chinese themselves (ourselves I guess, I am chinese).
Cheers

That's Leonardo di Caprio starring in Blood Diamond.
You've been fooled there: the time on the watch Leonardo is wearing is the exact same time on the depicted watch. Even the seconds clock arm matches. The giveaway: these symbols are WAY to red on the shot of the actor!
This little cut-and-past job probably came off EvilBay where someone is trying to sell cheap DPRK copies!?

Wow! That is well spotted! - I just quickly googled and you are absolutely right: the watch Di Caprio wears in the movie is blue-faced - http://depoisfalamos.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/lg_blooddiamond2.jpg

Hi Ian,
I believe that after the recent discussion of this watch, You probably have lost interest in it. But it is also hard to find. Now I am one of the moderators of the only online English language mechanical Chinese watch forum. I have a big number of vintage Chinese watches. If you ever visit the forum, and was interested in an old Chinese watch, just let me know.
Cheers,

Hi,
One more Chinese optical toy, a 900mm F11 process lens that I picked up recently. It was made in 1988 by Shanghai Optical Lens Factory. A big Rank Taylor Hobson 12.75 inch Xerox looks tiny in comparison, and a J-8 is almost invisible.
This lens should have an image circle of 600mm+ at infinate. The biggest Chinese field camera is only 12". I don't know if I willl ever need it to take pictures. But I think it can be used as a telescope lens. Yet it still looks tiny to my missle tracking lens.
Cheers,
Zhang

Here is another interesting optical toy, a portable microscope for military use. It was made in 1971. Nikon made a similar product. But they are not exactly the same. This is not one of those toy microscopes.![]()

Hi,
Just FYI. One has to shell out $3,600 for a similar used Nikon H field microscope.
This military field Chinese microscope could be a 'Red Flag 20' in microscopes.

Hallo Zhang! - actually, Johan's reference to "cheap DPRK copies " greatly increased my interest!
I would be fascinated by your site. I'll google - but perhaps you could post a link, as I'm sure other members would be interested too.

Indeed so, Will. Hopefully an understanding of history guards against the repetition of such horrors. It should certainly make us realise that justice is indivisible and the common right of everyone.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for your interest.
My user name is soviet, but don't assume I favour communism. It was shortened from sovietcamera a user name I used on other forums.
Kind regards
