Chrome and Black Combinations, which ones You prefer?!

I have 2 lenses black and chrome. And two bodies black and chrome. So, I don't care much about the looks but more what film is loaded where and what focal length I need. At the beginning, I bought a silver lens for the silver camera and a black lens for the black one.

P.S. Nothing beats black+black for a stealthy street shooting! For family pics and collectors silver looks much more attractive.

I like to use those yellow and black Nikon neckstraps on my Leicas. Real stealthy, huh? But they're soft and limp and easy to wrap around my wrist and they didn't cost me anything.

I have never ever had anybody ask why I had one silver body with a black lens while the other sports a chrome lens. I've never asked Leitz/Leica why they only made certain lenses in black, others only in chrome, and then! OMG, they don't all have the same knurlings.

Stealth is more a matter of how you carry yourself than camera color.

There are better ways to make a fashion statement.

I started with an M6 Panda and so far, have only bought black lenses. I have come to like that combination. My next film body will be black, probably an MP. I'm not sure what color I'd like an M9 in but if I do manage to actually afford one, I'd take either but faced with a choice, I'd probably choose black. Some day I'd like to have an M3 with matching lens. I think they all look good.

I agree that a lot of your being noticed has to do with how you carry yourself.

Chrome on chrome is beautiful but not wise in some parts of the world, esp with modern leicas which DO look expensive rather than 'vintage' - must be the clean lines of the modern MP vs the M3 etc. Well, thats what random Afghans have told me anyway - 'oooh, thats an expensive camera.' Not what I wanted to hear.

Damn, that's good to know !

Black is VERY expensive here in Japan. A friend of mine spotted a black rigid Summicron the other day (for the M3) and it was around $3000.
That's an extreme example, but chrome is cheaper.

aside from matching chrome/chrome and black/black, a black camera with a silver or nickel lens can look nice if the lens is small.

there are also some lenses that are both chrome and black, like the 50mm sonnar and heliar in nikon s-mount. those look good on any color body.

Chrome Leica manual cameras lens does not matter, black Leica metered camera but black lenses only. I put my Summarit with the camera quest generic hood (41) in my RD1 and looks awful to my eyes but nevertheless have great results.
