Difficult to answer. Especially since it very much depends on the shape of the lens as well; I think a svelte chrome collapsible 50 looks splendid on a black camera, while a chrome 90 on same camera looks absolutely out of place..
 
I had a black Bessa L with black 15mm lens and finder. The body died and I picked up a chrome body. What the hell, who'd get a $59.95 body fixed? The black lens still takes photos on the chrome body. My other lenses are an assortment of black and chrome, the M bodies chrome, the CL black. Sheeeesh! Next somebody will be asking where they can get their Visoflex chromed. Make sure you wear black jeans when shooting with a black body, faded blue or beige jeans with a chrome body, and the leather neckstrap should match your belt and shoes. Even if your pix are fuzzy you'll be lookin' sharp!
 
I'm not that fussed and it wouldn't bother me if I ended up with a black barrelled lens on a chrome/silver body.

That said if I had the choice I would want the lens barrel's colour to match the camera body's dominant colour.

It's not because I'm a collector, obsessive compulsive or anything like that, it's just my eye has an eye for aesthetically pleasing things and that perhaps is why I love my photography in the first place! :)
 
Black. Whenever possible black.
However, until the government provides a Bailout Package to the Chrome Nikon Rangefinder Body Users, I'll be stuck with what I could afford.
 
I like the chrome on chrome as a classical Leica look that cannot be replaced by any other combination. I use any combination though. Give me pink lens on orange camera and I will use it if the lens is good.

I beg to differ :cool:. As I was putting my chrome CV21 on my M2, I put the chrome ZM 35 on the black Bessa R3A and noticed that it had a lot of panache.
 
A pink lens on an orange camera? Pensacola must be an interesting place! Fathers Day is coming up soon and those daughters of yours might just make Daddy's wish come true! ;-)

If I could find a pink camera for Dana and a purple one for Lina, I would make them very happy.
 
Whatzisname Shintaro could paint the metal, Cameraleather could re cover the body, Luigi could make matching cases, and you'd be BROKE!

I'll kick in $10 towards the project. Anybody else?

black and black for use where getting noticed or robbed is not your aim. Chrome on chrome is beautiful but not wise in some parts of the world, esp with modern leicas which DO look expensive rather than 'vintage' - must be the clean lines of the modern MP vs the M3 etc. Well, thats what random Afghans have told me anyway - 'oooh, thats an expensive camera.' Not what I wanted to hear.
 
Generally, when buying second-hand I've not had much choice. However, for once having the money to pay for a top-notch repair and refinishing job (thank you, Peter at CRR Luton) I've got – and voted for – just the combination I wanted…
