Cityscapes: The landscape of the city

Taken a few years back. This is of the old train station in Detroit. Since I took the pic, Ford Motor Company has bought the old train station and is in the process of restoring it. Canon F-1 with a 50mm lens. On Tri-X.

Thu Thiem, District 2, the new Saigon. January 2021. These suburban areas continue to evolve over time. Nothing is 'finished'. Fuji X-H1 - XF 2.8/16-55 @ 48.5mm.

A view of the Thu Thiem 2 bridge which, for now, remains under construction, and behind it the Golden River highrises. Some expatriates like to live there but it's not for me:
living on the xx floor in a glass box. It's a bit like traveling by train in 1st class so that you are shielded from the world around you. Thu Thiem, District 2, the new Saigon.

A view of Saigon's District 1 from District 2, the new Saigon. In the foreground, some heavy digging has been going on for months. I understand, that this is the site for a
new concert hall. January 2021. Fuji X-H1 - XF 2.8/16-55 @ 16mm.

Work in progress. A typical suburban view: these so-called 'shophouses' are on average 5 x 20
meters and have 4 floors, which give the owners ample living space. The ground floor can be
used for commercial purposes, even though an increasing number of new house owners plan for
a garage. Houses are built wall-to-wall so that there are no side windows. Thu Thiem, District 2,
the new Saigon. Fuji X-H1 - XF 2.8/16-55 @ 55mm.

Thu Thiem Parish dates back to 1859, and is one of the oldest French colonial buildings in the city. The Parish includes a church and a convent. In December 2019, the Peoples
Committee of Ho Chi Minh City decided to preserve it within the Thu Thiem New Urban Zone Project. In the background, the towers of the Empire City project which is
now midway completion. Saigon, January 2021. Fuji X-H1 - XF 16-55 @ 16mm.

Going for a stroll. Binh Thanh District, Saigon. This is one of the nicest -and quietest areas in the city, adjacent to the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens. In the background,
the glass-encased towers of the Golden River estate. January 2021. Fuji X-H1 - XF 2.8/16-55 @ 16mm.

Some Saigon alleyways have a village-like atmosphere in which you will find a high degree of social cohesion not found in many other cities of a similar size. Fuji X-H1 -
XF 2.8/16-55 @ 16mm.

Thu Thiem, District 2, Saigon. These apartments are, either sold or rented. Not my cup of tea but I suppose they offer an attractive alternative to Vietnamese professionals and expats: the apartments are guarded 24/7; if you're dumb enough to own a car in Saigon, you can park it in your underground garage; neighbors can't start a karaoke session at 2.30 AM; fast access to the business district; a number of good schools nearby, and a large supermarket and shopping mall around the corner.
