CLA?/Griptack

It's too early to be thinking about a CLA, but I'm wondering how often I should have a CLA performed on my Leica III, shooting around 100-150 rolls a year?

Also, I've heard great things about Griptack from Cameraleather. Is it worth replacing the vulcanite[there is none missing from the camera] with it?

I'd say one CLA in every fifteen years should do the trick just fine at a film rate like that.

The GripTac is great, but I would not put it on a camera as long as current vulcanite still is in one piece, matter of economics.

Once the vulcanite starts to go, GripTac is the way to go, IMHO. Sticks to the fingers like glue, unbelievable covering.

Every two or three decades, if you don't use it too much. Never (unless it needs repair) if you keep it in good trim by using it (20+ films a year) AND the last overhaul was done by someone competent, using the right lubricants, instead of just flooding it with oil...

I bought an M2 recently that was 'CLAd' by the previous owner, using oil on the slow gears.

Took me quite some time to clean that out and I wasn't even completely done yet, when I sold it for a bargain to a fellow RFF-member. He's currently shooting over 1/50th speeds only and saving for a CLA.

I hated to see the camera go since it was a user but still a looker and would have been so nice when 100%.

So, I go with Roger, make sure no former owner has 'CLAd' it himself and keep it away from oils and such, and it will need a proper CLA only two or three times in your lifetime!
