It seem as if the ad to sales ratio is changing.I see more very nice items that are not being sold and I am sure there are many reasons why the slow down is taking place. We are living in difficult financial times and hopefully in the not too distant future sellers will be able to sell and buyers will be willing to buy.On the positive side maybe we all will shoot more with what we have and turn down the GAS.

Gas is easy to control when ya don't have any extra money. Being out of work for this short term doesn't help either. Just glad I signed up a few years back for short as well as long term disability insurance. Never know when you might need it. It might even keep you from having to sell some gear to stay afloat.;)

The financial situation certainly doesn't help. Also, there's also several cameras that are coming out that people might be unloaded gear in preparation for.

I know in my case, while I haven't decided whether or not I'll go with the Fuji XPro-1, it has started to become clear to me in the last year that I don't want to make the financial commitment to shooting a digital Leica. It's also become clear to me that even having a moderate film M setup is kind of crazy expensive, so I'm thinning the herd.

I dunno - I recently ran an ad for 4 items, some of which were repeats from a similar ad months ago. Results:

very rare item at (I think) very reasonable asking price - instant sale
common item at again, very reasonable asking price - sold in a week+
uncommon item (here) in great shape at fair price - sold in week+ with a price drop
commonish item at fair price - still for sale, only 2 questions/1 offer

Last time I ran an ad with 3 of these same items, plus 1 different - 1 sale instead of 3.

More things I've been tempted by lately as well, tho my buying patterns have been pretty steady over the past few years - more through the 'want to buy' than 'for sale' ads tho.

Everyone should do their part to stimulate the economy, and buy one or two items from the classifieds. I did, this morning, now it's your turn.

:)

At least for those in the U.S., things will start to pick up once income tax refund checks start to roll in. Probably in about a month.

It seems some item prices are hitting the pop point of the balloon. It was and still remains inevitable. How many old Summicron 35's/50's can change hands at $1500 or so before everyone interested has tried one and, realizes the price is too high for what is a nice lens but, one that does a very similar job to another costing 1/5 the price.? Other items follow a similar value fate. My opinion of course.

I've been looking and wanting to, but prices seem to be placed a bit high. Are folks pricing their stuff on the high side, expecting to bargain to a lower sale point?

I've made a few offers recently but others responded faster. Then again, I'm generally looking for midranged gear - maybe the market is different for the higher end items?

Actually, buying new will stimulate the global economy a lot more than used purchases - so patronize the new equipment dealers in the classifieds! (Of course if you are looking for the red dot brand, there are no new items, so used is the only way to go, diminished stimulus and all)

Prices are up, people's capitol is down... What do you expect?

My only thought is you better WANT the time or buy things that never lose their value even if they cost more. I have lost money due to this situation. My willingness to pay fair prices bit me in the butt a little. I should be more stringent and pay more realistic non-ebay-inflated prices or pass. I think we need to judge value outside of our own international influences a little more, instead of being dictated by the few items that miraculously sold on Ebay.

I have noted that stuff does not sell so easily here as it does on APUG or eBay. For me it's probably just down to that I'm in the UK, and understandably, US buyers don't want to bother with importing.

This is pretty political but...

Not really. Sorry. False sense of stimulation. The only way this works is if significant amounts of money is produced and circulated among the lower classes. Ultimately it de-values the money and products (these days in a hurry). However every time the money moves -even if it is from you to a local camera shop, to Lecia- , everyone single time, money flows up and into capitol of rich that only invest it to take more capitol from people. If money doesn't come down from the top investing in things that are good for communities, points of pride, then nothing changes but our illusion.

You may believe previously in history that the economy was stimulated by people buying things. In a way it was... However that excess capitol for stimulation is now debt. Essentially you see an influx when money tied down is circulated by deregulation. As we now know though, it all gets sucked up into the major players as we "spend out wealth cause it just comes at us".

Technically what you want to do is circulate local money as much as possible with used things of value. You keep this circulation rate high and it redefines the value of new things. Those with, will invest and invest, and fail because local circulation is stronger and their products ultimate worth is low. They will throw money at it, or end up spending money while not making. That will increase the amount of not-inflated money circulating in daily people's hands. Currently the issue is we are rather not "allowed too" do this because when those trying to take all our capitol sense this situation you get retaliation of law. You see things like FBI raiding raw milk clubs. You see new standards for the food industry that force out competition. New ways to transact money, new coupons, new press releases about how the local people are "ripping you off" by charging "too much".

You can imagine how hard it is to get the ball rolling since it is essentially illegal, but do you think the next crash will be better or worse than this one?

Really? I have seen quality gear sell and the not-so-quality not.

Anything that has not been damn near refurbished is not selling as well. Notice all the white gloves on Ebay holding stuff? I feel nearly certain people polish and or repair damn near everything now, to make sure they get the sale. In desperate times I am sure it is worth for those capable of camera repair. It might be low hourly wage-ish, but it is income that can be ran on your own time.

No one yet as mentioned the influence of raging digital gear developments going on these days. I think sales here could also be slowed by the fact that there are so many interesting digital camera ideas bubbling up these days. The ideas are coming so fast now that people might be waiting to see if their notion of the perfect digital camera is just over the horizon (like the "OM-D" for example).

I'm seeing a lot of items 20 -40 per cent higher than they would have been a year ago.

OM-D, Fuji X1 pro, Nikon 1 J or V, the new mirrorless from Leica...it will be an year with some innovative gear...at least interesting to evaluate ...
