CLE or CL?

Which and why please? Im lookin to grab a 40mm 1.4 and I'd like one of these two small bodies to tote around all the time.

Although definitely check out the other thread as it will answer most of your questions. The CLE does have a larger effective baselength, combinded with a brighter rangefinder patch I find that it is definitely easier to focus the Nokton at 1.4 close up. Close up at 1.4 is just at the CL's focusing limits.

However, in contrast to "bigger" Ms, the CLE min focus distance
is .8m which does bother me with the Nokron.

True but the lack off 40mm framelines I would find more annoying. A CL also only focuses to 0.8m so with the comparison at hand for this thread that 10cm shouldn't be an issue.

Don't get me wrong, I love my CLE .... I find the longer EBL very useful with
a Tele Elmarit attached to it.

Just in combination with the Nokton I tend to go as close as possible, to get kind of a
50mm/1m portrait perspective ...
