Coating on Jupiter-11 Lens barrel

I got this Jupiter-11 135mm F-4 lens It looks great but in the foto you will see what to looks like a varnish or some type coating ,any thought Folks : Thanks

The mfr put on a shellac to stop corrosion. The shellac peels off and can be removed entirely with metal polish.

I removed mine w/ lacquer thinner, then polished w/ metal polish (Flitz, Simichrome, etc.) on a rag, then applied a coating of Renaissance wax.
