I just came across this article and it helped me understand better the "Data transmission between camera and lens." But the article drives home how much I still don't understand. http://www.berndmargotte.com/technical/objektivcodierung_en.html
I searched the forums for the author, Margotte, but didn't come up with any discussion.
Question:
For my M9, what benefit do I get from coding my 2 Voightlanders, or my Summilux 1.4 pre-asph above and beyond using the manual lens selection? As far as shot workflow, I find the Manual setting very fast and easy, so put aside convenience as a factor. I had though that the M9's lens menu would get me spot on for the Summilux, and as close an approximation as coding would get me for the Voits. But is there more going on with the coding than with simply identifying the lens?
