Collapse of digital camera sales continued in 2015

So sales of Instax were up, while "sales volume largely decreased due to the contraction of the product lineup of compact digital cameras..." 😀

Well Fuji had a neat graph showing everyone else's digital sales were crashing while their's were increasing:

but I never really know what to believe when companies start throwing around statistics and terms like "strong" sales.

But Instax sales "increased". So that's nice to hear. 🙂

X system sales are pretty modest, as in 5-7% of the mirrorless market, so comparing them to overall market demand is not really an informative comparison.

I agree, "..." is how I feel about this.
Every big farmacy, every big box store have these cameras. But I have seen only twice people taking pictures with this cameras and only once buying it.

"Demand" is also a funny concept. Dollars or units? Fuji is pretty good at slashing prices to maintain market share, starting about 2-3 months after something comes out, and the demand at full asking price is pretty thin.

Although it is completely understandable that new (but older model) digital cameras are sold for less money when their replacements come out, Fuji is either making too many or pricing them too high to sustain MAP on current models over anything but the shortest timeframe. So the pattern (repeated again and again and again) is to slash prices, sometimes under the "demo" or "open box" rubrics and sometimes just flat out reductions. We've already had one wave of "demo" X-Pro2s.

I tend to view the "continuous state of sale prices" as a sign. And not a great one.
