Any chance you have the Tomosy book "Leica Repair Handbook"? It covers it. I've never done one myself.

Jon, I was mistaken.
Tomosy's book doesn't cover the collapsible Summicron.
And the military Leica maintenance book doesn't either; it covers the DR Summicron.
You might have to go in blind.

Vick, I already found that thread, but thanks anyway. I learned from it that its a tough lens to work on but not much else. Unfortunately Justin Low's lens is different on the back, and I need to go in from the back I think.

I just quickly tried unscrewing the front group on mine - it came off easily. Grab the front knurled ring and untwist counterclockwise.
I find that the aperture index dot is on a thin ring and has a lock-orientation stud, meaning that the ring / dot does not have an adjustable orientation.
I would guess that to adjust the orientation, you have to do something with the entire optical group, and maybe re-orient the tube via the silver collapsing tube.

I just tried screwing the front optical unit out by grabbing the front knurled ring. No luck. I cannot see a single screw on the focus ring.

Jon, send it in to the experts.
Jean-Marc, that's always a wise policy. But I have successfully done some repairs on vintage RF Nikkors in the past, so am up for giving it a go if I have a clear idea what I'm in for. Otherwise, I will leave it to the experts.

LOL, I see your point. I'm such a klutz that I leave most repairs to the experts. The only handywork I do is hanging a picture frame. Good luck with your attempt!

Hmmm. Old Summicrons are notorious for tight rings. You may need to drip in some naptha to unlock the front optical head to get the front head off. Mine separates behind the two front knurled rings, and in front of the aperture dot. If it were me, I'd drip it in there.
Mind you, dripping in naptha was how I locked up a Summarit. :-(
Okay, looks like you have a project on your hands. Something has to stop the rotation of the focus helical; typically it is a single screw. Maybe that knurled ring right in front of the focus scale comes off, and uncovers a bunch of screws.
Good luck, go slowly, take notes.

I have the same problem with this kind of lens. Disassembling the lens to this point was not a big deal, everything came off quite easily but now I’m stuck at the last 3 or 4 pieces. Has someone a hint for me, how to take this apart? Thanks a lot.

Helicoid repair is simple. Scribe your inner and outer helical, remove the stop screw count and separate. C.L.A. I prefer Losoid greases, reassemble using your marks. After putting your lens groups back in , be sure to check infinity with a ground glass, or Collimator.

FWIW I left the lens unadjusted. It worked fine as is so I figured why fix it if it aint broke. The lens is now back with its owner who was kind enough to loan it to me for a few months.

Thanks for your reply. This is where I’m stuck. Where is this stop screw and how can I reach it? Looking on the mount I can see three tiny holes where I can see the end of three screws but they are out of reach, because they are mounted from the other side.

I haven't done one of these for years, but I think the focus guides act as the stop...I will try to find my notes or lens

Well I know this is a day late ... but I figured I may as well help if I can. Leica made a tool for everything .... you will see in the picture the tool that is used for the lens. It is a very stubborn piece to unscrew .... Dont use big pliers !! Find some rubber and when your twisting the screw top off you may want to pray for extra strength !! It is screwed on extremely Tight !!! Hope this helps .... ThirdMan
