makes me wish I was closer to NYC!
If you want an adventure take the dollar bus. NYC is not that far away.

I'm in DC proper. If you make it into the city, just post an update closer to your arrival date & I'm sure there should be a bunch of people available to meet/shoot.
I'm looking to meet up with any local photographers to grab some good food and take some good shots. I don't know the area well at all, my first time back in the states in years. Oh the culture shock.

I'm about 20 minutes north of DC, but get into the city proper on occasion - usually not the parts where you want to stroll around with a camera in the evening tho! anything in particular you'd like to see? as well, anyplace you'd like to get to, but need transport?
It might be helpful to know if you have any preferences on your trip to DC. There is so much in the area of interest.

Sounds good.I'm sure you guys would rather shoot than have a beer and gear meet-up. I'm available Sunday the 22d, but lately its been raining every day in New York.
I can offer you a tour of the bowels of NYC that's kinda off the beaten track. Mostly industrial, abandoned where there's no people or houses with midtown Madhattan in the background. We're talking heavy industry, oil refineries, sewage treatment plants, garbage recycling depots, and the most polluted waterway in the U.S., Newtown Creek, where NYC started dumping raw sewage as early as 1853. Also site of an oil spill estimated to be three times the size of the Exxon Valdez, but only last year in 2010 was it labled a superfund site by the Federal government. LOL.
On a subway map its an empty space that comprises Long Island City, Hunters Point, Blissville, and Masbeth.

I'll have a car, so whatever/wherever is fine.
I'm up for the sketchiest stuff we can get into. I've been to DC several times before, NYC only once for a few hours, so I'd be happiest to walk through some lesser known areas, shoot the locals, talk to people and eat some of the great food. Looking forward to all of the good beer in America too!

I land at IAD on 5/20. Early in the AM on 5/21 I plan to head to NYC and come back on 5/23. If anyone wants to ride up with me you're more than welcome. I'll be free after 5 on the 24-26 and then be in the area through Memorial day.

I say we meet up at Sunday the 22d at noon at Puck Fair. This way we can gather, eat and drink beer, and we can figure out what we want to do about shooting at that time.
For those interested, my excursion is a place where there really are not a lot of people, and its more about urban landscape. The area is vacant and there is a mood/sense of abandonement and lonelyness even lthough Madhattan is in the background. Its the kinda place when you cross what Andre calls the "Bridge to nowhere" there is no food or water. Also this is a place where a large group of shooters will not bother any locals because there are none. This area is vast so if you want it can be a "death march." if you really want to explore.
I live about 5 minutes away from the bridge to nowhere, and I shoot there all the time. We can make it as big or a small as you like. Also consider that its only one stop into Queens from Madhattan on the E train, and either the first or second stop on the 7 train, so doing some shooting in Madhattan can be easily added.

I shoot here all the time, and shoot MF to capture the filth and grittyness. Andre, John and a few others do long hikes there all the time. Vast and timeless it can be a scary place during the day because there are places where you are all alone, places where you could dump a body in broad daylight and no be seen.
Night shooting alone is pretty risky, but the results are worth it.
Also the area is dotted with railyards.

I checked the extended weather forecast and Sunday is looking better and better.
Looks like the showers will end Saturday, and Sunday will only have a 30% chance of a passing/isolated thunder storm. Mostly cloudy though with a high of 75 degrees.

The weather for Sunday's shoot-out has been upgraded. One report says zero chance of rain and another only 10%. Instead of mostly clouds we now have mostly sunny and a high of 76.
Some dramatic clouds could be great for shooting.

So I've not found a room available for under $300 in the city for Saturday. I guess I shouldn't have procrastinated. I'm so used to big cities in Asia! It looks like I have a place to stay at the Jane on Sunday thought. Anyone have any suggestions where I can sleep Saturday?
