Hi all,

I am interested in the CV 35/2.5 Pancake II M mount lens. I would like comments from anyone who has this lens or has used it. Thanks in advance for your time.

Ditto the above. I have and use constantly, the original Pancake in LTM which has the same lens configuration as the Pancake ll. Highly recommended.

Thanks for your post. I have this lens as well. Per Cameraquest the Pancake II M mount is not the same formula or configuration:

"The new 35/2.5 Pancake Type II's new optical formula is designed to make it as compact as possible. It is made in Leica M mount only, as the new optics do not allow construction in Leica screw mount. Using 7 elements in 5 groups, 10 aperture blades, weighs in at only 134 grams, 39mm filter size, measuring 55mm wide by 23mm long, with rangefinder coupled focusing as close as .7 meter. Physically the lens and shade are styled much like the Leica pre-aspheric 35/2 Summicron, even down to the focusing tab and aperture controls. The bayonet on LH-4 vented shade will not fit other lenses, due to the bayonet mount. The new snap on 39mm cap will likely prove popular for other lenses as well."

I can only guess it's a super lens. I just wondered if anyone had hands on experience.

Its a great lens, ive used one, it takes a little getting used to its smallish size if you have sausage fingers like me but it gives first rate results as long as you have the hood on it! Get one and enjoy. I would have one if I didnt have such filthy filthy leica lust

Hi Bob,

I had one and sold it. Not because the results were bad, on the contrary, but I also have a 28mm 1.9 and with the crop factor on my Epson I preferred that focal length. With the money I got from the 35mm I was able to get a 50mm which is a nice addition to the 28.
If 35mm is the focal length you seek, this lens is a great choice; it gives great results, looks lovely (get the hood) and is nice and small.

Here's one made with the PII on the Epson R-D1s: wide open at iso 1600.

Hi Bob,
I have it and it is great. As a "retired" photojournalist I gave up my Leica stable and now use Voigtlander lenses 90% of the time. If I wasn't lazy or busy I'd post some images. But it is a fine lens. But...always a "but"...the 40mm is a few stops fast, nearly as wide and very sharp. It deserves a long look. In fact, it's so good it's used instead of the 35mm 2.5 and the 35mm 1.2. I'd seriously look it over as a top choice.

Thanks to each of you for your comments. I have narrowed my choices to this lens and the ZI 35/2. As Photokina is in full swing and it is the show where new equipment is spotlighted I'm going to wait and see if any new 35's are released. Thanks again guys.
