Compact or a new lens?

Hi everyone.
I own a Minolta CLE coupled with a rokkor f/2 40mm. I would like to have a wider lens along with it, since even on my SLRs I don't have anything wider than that 40.
So I am thinking about a 28mm leica mount.
Hell, they cost a lot, even used.
The voigtlander could be OK, but it looks big for the small CLE from the pictures I've seen on the net.
Hexanon is a lot, Avenon is super rare, GR lens even more.
The 28 Rokkor isn't usable.
So I started thinking about a compact.
Then I saw Moriyama's pictures.

So here's my dilemma: keep my money for a leica mount lens or buy now a GR1(S)(V)? The Klasse W?

The idea of a camera I could carry in a jean pocket becomes kind of obsessive. What keeps me away from clicking on Buy It Now on evilBay is the noise these cameras could make...

Canon LTM 28 or Voigtlander LTM 28.

Ultron 28mm f/2 or 1.9 would be pretty big on a CLE. It's right at the border for me on an M2.

I've thought about the GR1 route before but like manual focusing and keeping it with the M system. Who knows though, maybe an AF point and shoot would change my photographic life!

No experience with Klasse.

Relative of my wife loves his Nikon 35ti .. Here is link to what the 28ti looks like.. I think loose jean pocket fit 🙄

I saw an image of the CLE alongside the Minolta, man that is small.
Now I'm even more close to a compact... Another problem is: to much choice!

The thing is, a CLE, even without lens, won't fit in my jean pockets.

Forget your jeans pockets, it's not a criterion worth your mental energy. Get a wrist strap for the CLE, hang if off your arm, and put a Voigtlander 28/3.5 LTM with an off brand 28-90 LTM>M adapter. Fabulous lens, not too much $. If you're patient you'll find one cheap. The Canon 28mm is harder to find and you never know the condition of those very old lenses -- which is not to say you shouldn't grab one if it comes along. They have a terrific reputation.

I think the best jeans camera is an iPhone 4g. I do have an Oly XA however, just in case.

i would get the lenses i want for the cle first and then think about a pocket camera.
if you could find the cle 90 and the cv 28/3.5 you would have a near perfect film kit...then add a nice digital p&s later.

Both...get an Olympus XA4 and a Canon 28mm 3.5 Serenar with a M adapter. $400 should cover both.

+1 this is exactly what I'd be looking to do in your situation.

well, judging by your portfolio, it looks as if you like to grab fast shots once in a while, probably prefocusing. Don't know if an AF p&s like the minolta or nikon would be your best bet. The Oly XA4 has scale focusing, which i prefer over AF for wide angles due to speed and ease of use. If you're going the lens route you could also consider a 25mm skopar in LTM. Used they are the cheapest modern LTM lenses and really good, virtually distortion free and sharp. You can sometimes get them at about 200$ INCLUDING the finder. No RF coupling though, but you don't need that with this lens and the focus click stops are great. you might even use it without an external finder, as you have the 28mm brightlines on the CLE.

GR's are nice but beware of failing LCD's.

The CV 28/3.5 is very nice. Very small, too. Unlike the faster CV 28's you're thinking of.

If you don't wear loose jeans, forget about any film P&S fitting in there... it'll just be annoying. Try carrying two film boxes in your jeans for a whole day and see what I mean.

That said, Ricoh GR1v's are very cool 28/2.8 cameras...
