Comparing 35mm Lenses: Would you be interested?

I have to say - that zeiss 35 f2 is just excellent. IMO tops the other 35mm glass.

Followed by the canon 1.5. And then the leica stuff

The Canon 35/1.5 has an non-typical OOF behavior that not everyone may appreciate. It is a wonderful lens though.

I sent back today lenses to five people. I packed up another five parcels for tomorrow's shipping.

Another five parcels were mailed today.

I still have lenses from Fred and Huck Finn.

Raid, I was just now having another look at the photos of your family in the historic district of Pensacola. Excellent shots, especially considering the narrow DOF that the Canon 35/1.5 provides wide open. The OOF areas are very impressonistic- kinda hard to pin down, but lovely color rendition and very smooth transition from in-focus to out of focus areas.

Also, you have a lovely family- you are a fortunate guy, Raid.

Dear Mark,

Many things in life are relative, but I agree with you that I am a lucky man indeed.

Your Canon 35/1.5 would be an excellent lens for photos of people in the open shade. It shows something like a "glow" that we always here about when Leica lenses are mentioned. Roland called it a 3-D quality in the images.

I am quite used to very narrow depth of field after using the fast 50mm lenses that were sent to me (Noctilux 1.0/Nikkor1.1) plus my Canon 50/1.2. My eyes still are rather sharp without glasses.

I felt quite comfortable shooting with Canon lenses and any LTm/M mount lens. I felt quite lost with the Contax/Nikon mount lenses and your Bessa R2C. It takes a different touch to mount/remove and set aperture for such lenses.

Enjoy all your excellent lenses, Mark.

Here is a small sample of images from the four lenses that were used with a Bessa R2C in the test. Roland will one day put the roll of film in a more manageable shape for you to enjoy.

An update on the lens testing [Yes, it's not over ...]

1. I will try to mail on Monday back the last two loaner lenses (Zeiss Biogon 35mm/2 and Rollei 35mm/2.8).

2. I still have results from four more rolls of film to post, covering eleven lenses. Erik is developing the rolls and he will also scan the images. I used Arista 50 B&W film. These are all field tests with many variable factors.

3. I may get a Pentax 43mm lens for a test! That would be cool indeed.

That's it.

Here is a shot from the last scanned roll that I picked up today:

It is taken by a Bessa T and a Rollei Sonnar 35mm/2.8 @ 5.6 with Kodak Portra 160NC rated at 120.

This one, on the other hand, was taken on the same roll of film with a Zeiss Biogon 35mm/2 @ 5.6.

I wish we could somehow put all the test images in one place so that people here have direct access to sample images for such lenses.
