Hi all!

How do the CV Nokton 50/1.5 and Canon 50/1.4 lenses compare size wise?
Does anyone have a picture of the two side by side?

I understand the Canon 50/1.4 is a 'modern' design, while the Canon 50/1.5 is a classic Sonnar type. Is this correct?

My Nokton is pretty big so I was just wondering what my alternatives for a fast 50 were. I have recently acquired a Jupiter-8 which is nice and compact.

Please post any links to Canon 50/1.4 shots 😀

Cheers!!

Nick:

Can't speak to the canon 50/1.4 other than it is much larger than the canon 50/1.5.

The Canon 50/1.5 is the sonnar-based design, it is extremely well-built (heavy), tiny in size relative to other 50s, compact, and has a very smooth distinctive signature. I love this lens.

It is positively tiny compared to my CV Nokton. Takes 40mm filters. From camera base, about 1.4 inches. Width, about 1.75 inches. Relatively rare lens compared to the 1.4.

cheers

there is always the cv 40/1.4 if you want small and fast.

Thanks for the advice guys!
Joe, I'd love a cv 40, but it's v. hard for me to see the 40 framelines on my Bessa (I wear glasses)
Why did I buy an R3A you may ask? Very good price. 🙂
So I guess I'll keep my eyes open for a Canon/Nikon fast 50, going cheap!
