I have been watching the stuff Tony Rose has put up for sale and I am amazed. How many different variations of the M6 is out there anyway? I see 5 special edition cameras that Tony listed(thanks for the eye-candy) on top of the a la carte versions, LHSA M6, the regular M6, M6TTL, M6 .72, M6 .58......
Then there is the M4, M4P, M4 midland, M4 motor....M5 2 lug, M5 3 lug, original MP, new MP, MP3....
Lets not forget the M7, M3, M2....

I am a Nikon guy with very limited understanding of different Leica models but there seems to be quite a few.
Is there anyone out there who has kept track? Is it possible to have a complete M collection? considering all the different cameras since the start of the M series.
I feel for the Leica M collectors. There is no end in sight for them.

Serious M collectors have reached the pinnacle of acute GAS. 😉

Auha! M2 with and without selftimer, M2-R, M3 single and double stroke, all the commemorative editions, you'll need the flag series, too.

I think I better stick to collecting Aston Martins, still saving for my first one 🙂

My Leica collection is complete.

I have one!

An excellent viewpoint!!!! Sometimes simplicity is too simple....
I own 2 Barnacks (one was too cheap to pass up), and an M3, because they are significantly different cameras. They complement my Canon RF's, which I also enjoy shooting, and the lenses are interchangeable (with adapters for the M-mount, of course).

As to complete: possible for a Bill Gates with an obsession, and a very large storage closet. Totally impractical from a financial and photographic POV. One camera, one lens, that's what we use to take the pic in front of us.

And, my collection is complete, also....

There are a couple of things to keep in mind here.

1) Some Leica models, such as M-3 and M-6, were current for long periods of time. There would surely be minor variations over a long production run.

2) Leica has long been famous for "special" editions. Quite a few of them probably had little real justification, such as the one for Anton Bruckner, a 19th century composer. The literature is full of "limited" numbers of certain variations on the theme.

Can there be a "complete" M collection? My bet would be that if you went to Wetzlar you could find one.
