Heres some of my lastest work from down under, all shot with a lieca IIIc. Evidence that rangefinder photography is still alive and kicking in New Zealand, even though all my mates think im mad for using such a old camera and still using film....I would like to know what you all think of these pics.
cheers

I think there is proof that photography is alive and well in NZ and I like your choice in equipment.

You present a very different perspective in these photos. They seem to suggest to me that you are out looking and seeing in a unique way. I like the way the composition is built in the second photo.

I am very happy to see another New Zealander here Eco ! thought perhaps I was the only one??? Love your work to. Im running newer gear apart from my 50's Mamiya 6X6 RF but I think we are still of the same ilk.
Cheers.

i agree completely!....there is so few of us around these days. Your kit sounds great, porbably way too expensive for me (bearing in mind my camera was only $15) and with being a student developing costs etc its gets pretty expensive.

Would love to see your pictures but they come up very large on my screen and I have to scroll way to much. Could you downsize them or do you think it is my screen? TIA

No, they're big. Downsizing would be good please, Eco.

FWIW, La Thanatos and I booked a trip to NZ today - Auckland, Napier, Wellington for 10 days then Christchurch for 10 days, in November. It's a scouting mission to see if we'd like to work/live there. Plus to catch some rugby, if we can.

I'm hoping security is such that I can take my Contax G2 and a few lenses. I don't fancy putting my precious in my hold luggage, though, so i might end up buying an Instamatic.

Thanatos,go now and never come back. You`ll love it , cool temperate climate, fantastic scenery, great people, wine and food brilliant, and this coming from a skippy, after they cleaned us up in the Tri-Nations!! When you are up Napier way try and get to the Bay of Plenty , the Bay of Islands and the Coromandal. Don`t worry about film supply& proccesing, there are excellent Pro-Labs in Auckland & Wellington. Just burn film.Did I mention the wine and cheese, chardonnay&camembert that makes the French stuff taste like tessco tat.All the best and have a great time.

There are a few Kiwis on here 🙂 I ran into EcoLeica in a shop in Newtown, while he was mentioning how a student can end up affording a Leica 🙄

Thanatos: You should have no problems bringing your gear on board, at least for the NZ leg of the journey. Security is somewhat more relaxed in this part of the world! You might want to get a MF camera as well... Film is still readily available, B+W though is cheaper at the proper photo stores (like WPS in Wellington). Developing costs aren't too bad if you avoid the 1 hour places, and the quality is way better than what I used to get when living in Amsterdam. BTW, what sort of work are you looking for? Unemployment is pretty low here at the moment (arounf 3.5% nationwide, about 2% in the main centres), so there are plenty of opportunities.

Enjoy your trip, PM me if you want when you're in Wellington.

Adam: Snagged yourself a scanner I see - look forward to your thoughts on how it works.

A little OT: Thanatos good luck in your trip. I'm going to be in that general part of the world next year and would love to visit NZ, Australia too. I left England 25 years ago and the USA/Canada/Australia/NZ were my goals. I ended up in the USA and economically I haven't regretted it but culturally I have. If I had gone to a Commonwealth country things might have been different.

EcoLeica that is good work! Don't listen to your mates... 😉

Thanks for the info you lot.

La thanatos and I are both medics. The UK NHS is being dismantled by this New Labour govt - they're desperate to turn us all into protocol driven drones. In fact, the NHS is now a Stalinist dysfunctional gulag. Sure we'd make reasonable money in the UK but all aspects of medical practice are being driven in ways that are not good for patients and not good for us.

And that's before we get to climate, lifestyle, cost of living...

thank you all kindly for the feedback. Never knew our little country was so popular. We should come up with some sort of photographic tour of our islands (and give discounts to fim users haha). But hey if your thinking of taking a holiday, come on over. You will not regret it🙄
