That's a very intellectual argument you've got there. Please post a reasonable opinion, please, without resorting to name calling...this post does not reach the quality standards established in this thread. :)

You're right, that is below the allowable standards :)

But seriously, you realize why most thinking people consider a flat percentage tax a non-starter, right?

The People's Flag is deepest red
Stained with blood our fathers shed
And as their limbs grew stiff and cold
Their martyrs' blood stained every fold

I found it REALLY hard to believe when (at the age of 16) I heard the Red Flag played at Christmas in the PX in Bermuda. That was before I knew about the German 'O Tannenbaum' (though I learned quite quickly).

But although I would not describe myself as either communist or Marxist, I have to accept that the 'blood our [left-wing] fathers shed' made for a fairer, better society. I find it hard to think of right-wing 'martyrs' of whom one can say the same. Horst Wessel, anyone?

Cheers,

R.

The Blessed Margaret? Unpopular? Riots?

No, you must have been misinformed.

Besides, if there were any rioters, and the pictures weren't specially staged, it was only a few people who were too stupid to realize that a flat tax is MUCH fairer and more socially acceptable than progressive taxation.

I mean, if money's a problem, you can always sell the holiday home in the Dordogne, or if you haven't got a holiday home in the Dordogne you can just give up eating one or two days a week. Come to think of it, that's a great idea. Many of the poor are too fat anyway.

Cheers,

R.

We're not immune from this. Some idiot politician in Canberra proposed a "toilet tax" on hotels and motels in our nation's capital. Per unit. Can't even remember what it was supposed to be for but it got a lot of newsprint for a week! Wild rumour suggested there would be a national shortage of toilets as a result of the tax and we'd all be in the sh**.

There's a joke in that somewhere...

Roger,

This is perfect!

From now on, you must take over the important task of spreading the message of socialism to these colonial chaps, Roger. Because I am off to a very decadent Skiing-Easter Holiday. - Even a socialist enjoys a little sun, fun and luxury. I will be leaving tomorrow. But I will be back late next Monday, with brown cheeks - and a red mind. Be assured.

Olsen I shall be off o France in a couple of months. I hope to meet Roger in Arles with a red mind to consume some red wine !

I certainly wouldn't bitch at that. Much better to keep your money and get the benefit yourself, rather than give out a free loan. Imagine how many people would finally realize how much the government confiscates...

Not to mention, how about those people that live in states that are under-water who are holding onto the refunds??

Nice. Joy at someone near death.

The tolerance of the left in full glory yet again.

Right-wingers can be comical. One moment they're acting like heard-hearted tough guys, the next minute they're weeping at some oblique insult to one of their icons.

Maybe right-wingers are bipolar, that would explain a lot! :)

You are the guys that care so much, you feel everyone's pain, and have so much sympathy, empathy, tolerance, and understanding...except when refer to the president as "Bu****ler", when you call every conservative, Republican, and/or Tea Partier a racist, bigot, homophobe, misogynist, and sexist. Heck, you guys don't even have the balls to call an Islamic terrorist an Islamic terrorist...rather, he's just an 'alleged gunman.' (Referring to Ft. Hood.)

You see it's ok to be intolerant as long as you are being intolerant against the right group of people. :)

To whom exactly are you attributing that quote -- "the poor get what they deserve?"

Yeah, but to refer to Bush as "Chimpy McBu$hitler," is just plain funny!

Hmmm, "the poor get what they deserve." I don't think anybody here has stated that precise phrase. But it sounds like something a conservative would say.

At least we don't have to deal with liberal nonsense like they have in Canada, where you can be investigated by the Human Rights Commission...for reprinting cartoons of Mohammed originally published in a Danish newspaper. The horror! They said it was promoting hatred towards Muslims. It's ok to relentlessly bash Christians, however, even though they don't make a habit of blowing themselves up along with innocent bystanders, or crashing planes into buildings in the name of Jesus.

Canada has anti-hate legislation.

No, those Christo-fascists are far more efficient. They use high-powered rifles on their targets:

No one here has, but Rush Limbaugh has said it literally hundreds of times on his radio show. I used to listen to him a lot when I was a teenager, and I have clients who have him on during the afternoons and I've heard the show in more recent years while visiting these people. I also hear it stated in exactly those words on a daily basis in Fort Wayne. Its is a common sentiment among a lot of Americans

I think its funny that someone whose political views are 180 degrees from those preached by Jesus Christ is now shedding tears over people bashing Christianity.

Good heavens I almost agree with you about suicide bombers and their killing of the innocent but of course this is not confined to Muslims. Timothy McVeigh being a classic example of right wing evil but even he did not act alone. What happened to the rest of his American terrorist Cell
Did they all become Republicans Politicians ?

Heh...McVeigh is just as evil, except he was just one wacked out guy, not an entire culture. I don't remember him blowing himself up, either, for his cause.

I am not shedding tears, Chris. It doesn't matter if the libs were bashing Buddhists in the same manner...it's hate and intolerance any way you look at it.
