I guess you have to set the camera in "MF", then have it acquire the focus (which won't be accurate for close-ups), then you read the distance found by the camera AF on the green bargraph inside the viewfinder, then you report it on the lens focusing barrel, then you compose and shoot.

Maybe the distance scale in the viewfinder would still work? The focusing system is not TTL so I guess it might.
