hi folks,
need some advice here. i know g1 is very outdated and g2 is a far superior camera. but i get this offer from a local fella
- contax g1 + 28mm for usd 220
or
- contax g1 bodies + 28mm + 90mm + flash (i dont know which model yet) and polariser filter for usd 380.
so, the question, would you still consider a G1 body? are these a good deal? i dont use tele lens that often, but given the deal, should i just bit the pill and get the 90mm and flash for the given price as well?
thnks.

The G1+28mm is a steal, I'd grab that in any case. The 90mm and all flashes sometimes go cheap, not quite as cheap as $160, but given ebay fees and other transaction costs you would not profit much selling them either - I would not buy these if that would bring me over budget. And in any case you might want to stay clear of the 90mm if you know that you feel no love for 85/90mm "portrait" lenses - other than the 45mm and 28mm (which are spectacular, among the best lenses ever) the 90mm is just another among the many good lenses in that focal length...

thank you. thats a very good and wise approach you just gave me. i dont use tele lens that often and i believe you just saved me from unnecessary extra spending and hassle w/ ebay. i guess im gonna go ahead w/ the g1 and 28mm.

True, but it's also the only 90mm lens available that will fit the body that he's buying.

Sites like keh are a good reference point on one end of the price range versus eBay. A g1 with 45 outfit is over 600, u got a steal at that price if it is in good shape.

I would dispute that having owned and used both a G1 and G2 for about 7 years. I ended up grabbing the G1 about 90% of the time when I had a choice of either one.

I personally find the G2 has an advantage for use with the 90mm (focussing accuracy and speed). With the 28, I MUCH prefer the G1 actually. Slightly smaller, noticeable lighter, and focusses perfectly. G1 and 28 = a great combo. I'd go for it!
