Perhaps one of you can tell me:
Here I have found this Contax Lens Hood, but do not know for which lens it is intended.
The diameter is 42mm, which fits a Sonnar 50mm f2, but it will rotate with the lens during focusing, so I doubt it belongs to it... since it will not be practical except for studio photography with the camera on a tripod.
"Zeiss Ikon" "Alemania" (Germany in Spanish) and "42" are engraved in the front frame.
I wonder if one of you can have an idea
Thanks
in advance!

It may sound strange, but this odd looking hood is one of the original prewar hoods designed for the Contax. It´s a slip on type due to it´s particular design and it fits the 50/2 and 50/1.5 Sonnars. I guess it can also fit the old Tessars (2.8 and 3.5 50mm). 42 is the outer(mounting) diameter.

I have a very old book dealing with the Contax I; II and II as well as the postwar "a" models and it states clearly that this old hoods are "to be mounted after focusing, taking care of the orientation". It´s not practical, but it works and is a collectible item.
Next year I´ll try to scan the page and post it .

I think that at this time, Zeiss thought that this was a good design for a hood, however the rectangular cut in the front is really annoying and prevent it from being screwed in the lens barrel. Apparently Zeiss never thought of a better or at least more practical design (screw mounted) beacuse this odd shaped hood was intended to reduce flare risk in non coated lenses

The Legend "Alemania" is just a "made in..." which either Zeiss used to engrave in both cameras and some accesories intended to be sold in such contries. Some overseas agents also engraved it´s company name on cameras as well as owner´s name (of course under his/her request). It was a normal practice at least from the Argentine Zeiss agent which was Lutz Ferrando in Buenos Aires, which was also E. Leitz sole agent.

Cheers and happy new year.

Hehehehehe....just unusual, nothing else....

I think that we should start the River Plate section of RFF, as there are several members in Uruguay as well as in Argentina, as you can see.

May I PM or email you?

Yo estoy en el límite de Caballito, con Almagro Y Boedo... es decir, Av. La Plata y San Juan.
