I've never owned an RTS II but I got one in the mail today. No lens and no battery. The seller (a camera store) said it had had a CLA. There's no manual although one is on its way so I took a peek at the Butkus site for battery info and a quick intro to the controls. Tomorrow I'll pick up a battery. In a day or two the lens (50mm 1.7 Planar) will arrive.

The camera has the mirror locked up and the shutter is open. I can't find a way to release either and no doubt because of this the film advance won't work. Do I need to have a lens attached before I can release the mirror and fire the shutter? Or am I overlooking something obvious?

Flip the lever on the bottom rh side. The DOF preview is concentric to the lever.
It's a default 1/60th manual shutter in case your battery dies.
Great camera. Classic Contax and one of the best.

You can use Yashica ML and DSB lenses on that Contax, too. Though I wouldn't waste too much money on the DSB's, or any ML zoom. The ML primes are good lenses, and easier to find than the Zeiss equivalent.
